I have so many questions on this video. At every turn there is something that needs answered. I'll start with what guitar was Buck using? I'll ask much more soon

Saint Blues guitar, which he used during the Club Ninja tour.

Late one night I conjured up a whole scenario of how Dancin' could be portrayed as a continuation of DFTR. At the time I had an almost complete explanation of almost every aspect of Dancin' in my head. I almost wrote it down the next day but decided that it would be too time consuming to write up the justification of every aspect. A lot involved symbolism that would have been hard for me to write coherently. And not contradict or degrade Buck's original meaning of DFTR, which is why I probably decided not to pursue it.
Maybe some future late night I might at least make some notes though.
All just a fictional interpretation from a late night mind, but we are in the realm of "thinking man's music" aren't we?

Interesting, Joe; you must have an artist’s mind. That is how movies, books, and music is made. I’m sure your version would be very fascinating. What an intriguing concept.

You can find online a million opinions on the song's meaning. I think there is a sliver of truth in all of them. The video definitely gives the perception of a destroyed world that finds a way to survive.and kudo in ways to man's resilience. Somebody obviously was enthralled in the skateboard craze of the day. What's going on with the girl and the camera guy?

The guitar that appears around 30 seconds in is the St. Blues guitar.
But, I don't recognize the guitar that appears at 2:40. That looks like ESP's logo on the headstock, but I don't know of an ESP that looks like that.

I'm not sure I would say "an artist's mind". Sometimes I'll hear the lyrics to some song and can spontaneously conjure up an NSFW version in my head. Just have to be in the right mood, which is usually late at night. Could I write any decent original lyrics? Unlikely. Any original music? NO WAY IN THE WORLD! I really admire those that can. Most of my life I've worked with non-destructive practical jokers and rumor starters. All kept in the group, not spread generally.
Back in the day, when decorating the groom's car during the wedding reception was an expected thing, me and a friend of mine were known as the "go to" guys for non-destructive vehicle enhancement within our circle of friends. So I guess some "art" was involved in coming up with new creative "enhancements". We did some things that nobody had ever seen. One involved placing a toilet dead center on the front seat of a guys truck and fastening it to the frame of the truck where the seat attached with steel cable so strong that they had to stop on the way to their honeymoon to find a place with bolt cutters strong enough to cut the cables. Obviously we had everything completely covered with wadded up newspaper so they couldn't see what they were getting into. Man, he was mad when they got back, but laughing the whole time he was cussing me out. Yes, we remained best friends. So I guess this was "artistic".
This has nothing to to with this thread other than they were "Dancin' in the Ruins" that night!

I always thought it was a ESP custom one of kind, maybe derived from the Robin Raider, that they brought to the shooting and said "hey Buck take that, you'll look cool and dreamy".

You can find online a million opinions on the song's meaning.
I've maintained that the McCoy's song "Hang-on Sloopy" has to be about the singer's dangerous pit-bull. They couldn't call it "Snoopy" because of the Peanuts copyright.
"Hang-on" is exactly what someone would expect out of a pit-bull.
"Sloopy lives in a very bad part of town
And everybody, yeah, tries to put my Sloopy down"
Definitely about a pit-bull.

BTW: My own DITR Video query would involve the guy writing "Skatepunk Docu 2-18-89" on the film reel at the start - Billboard first mentioned the video shoot in their 15 Feb 86 issue, so the Feb part sounds OK, but 1989? What was going on with that? Was the idea that the video was set 3 years in the future...? If so, I wonder why just three, as the song itself seems to operate on a much grander, epoch-level timescale...? BTW: Previously, whenever anybody mentioned a Buck guitar in the past, I'd always check out the "Buck's Guitar Gallery" page on buckdharma.com... but that's now gone - the domain name is still current until next year, so it's not a question of someone forgetting to pay the domain fee - it's just that the whole site seems to have been deleted and there's no holding page left in place to explain anything so I was just wondering what was happening with that...?

I tried some, this one seems working ok.

I recall hearing it a time or two on FM radio, but not much after that. As a side note, I did hear When the War Comes off CN on Ozzy’s Boneyard on Sirius XM last week. Do you think it had anything to do with it being three years between releases? I know that’s not really a thing in 2024, but back in the mid-‘80s, that was like an eternity. That’s the only reason I can think of. I always thought of DITR as Burnin’s sibling.
