I've only heard Lazarus and the Blackstar track so far but I found that I was listening to it too much within the context that he'd just died and that he'd recorded it and shot the videos probably knowing he possibly wouldn't be around by the time people got to hear it, and I couldn't divorce all that "context" from my listening experience - I couldn't really judge what I thought of it all, so I'm going to leave it for a while before I tackle the full album, and then I'll see what I make of it... You could argue, of course, that the attendant emotional context invests the recording with a greater significance, and makes it mean a whole lot more to the listener - after all, how many records being released these days actually move you or mean anything...? I suppose that's something for me to think about...

I haven't shared this with the forum yet, but I've been listening to Bowie's Blackstar album, I must have heard it 30 times by now. I think it's a masterpiece. I think it's Sgt. Pepper's. It's that good. It's not catchy in a pop or bubblegum way, but I recommend just listening and let it wash over you. It's 43 minutes long, and stunning. I can't imagine a better parting shot as an artist from anybody. I haven't been as excited and moved by an LP recording as this one in decades.

Blackstar is Streaming on Amazon Prime. I have not been able to get myself past the feeling that the album is on the Other Side. Chewing on it in bits and pieces.

And today, I get some time to listen to Blackstar all the way through with some proper headphones. So what plays immediately after it? GOODBYE (by Sass Jordan and SUN, SomethingUntoNothing)
Excuse me, while I look over my shoulder!
Can't wait for a few more listens...

Well, I listened heavily to Blackstar (received it on Jan 8th), totally agreeing with Buck, masterpiece. Now, it's so heavily death themed and my father just died 4 days ago, I don't know if I'll listen to it again soon... I'm quite afraid to do it actually...

I Can't Give Everything Away is by far the track that stands out for me. It's been stuck in my head for about a month.
