I play on that track. About 1:20 I'm in there, and then I play along to the out. I couldn't tell listening to it on the computer, so I played it with headphones and I can certainly tell it's you by the soloing style and the tone. However, your solo is competing against too-busy drumming and too-loud rhythm guitar, and it kind of makes it hard to focus on it while you're playing. I like the solo a lot but the vocals and the drums are too obnoxious for me to want to listen again. Sorry Mike Portney with too busy drumming? Who’dda thunk! 😂

Buck with Adam Holzman. The rest of that Supergroup can don Black and play in the shadows :-)

Do the musicians have to be alive? Rock and Roll Heaven is getting more crowded these days.

I love Portnoy’s playing, and I certainly don’t think he’s too “busy”. He is a fill monster, but he plays to the music and “fills” it in. Like Neil Peart, he adds to the flavor of the track. I don’t think it’s excessive. I especially am thinking of his work with The Winery Dogs, Flying Colors, and the Neal Morse Band. I think his drumming is perfect for those groups.
I can’t speak to Dream Theater. As much as I try, I just can’t get past the lead vocals.

Gotta have Buck and Geddy. I'd rotate other vocalists - Eric, Phil Mogg (I love UFO).

I saw Dream Theater a long time ago at what was then the theater at MSG, with a two good friends(RIP to one of them) who were big Yes and Genesis prog rock fans. The musicianship was undeniably great, do not remember the vocals, and the songs were not memorable or catchy to me. Without a hook, you are not going to catch me.
