Was at work this morning about 0430, listening to music from my iPhone and a song comes on that I had not heard yet.
My immediate thought? Did iTunes start playing a new Bon Jovi song? I don’t have any Bon Jovi in my iTunes? So I turned to my machine and saw that it was The Machine. Was it me or just the hour? Richie sounds like JBJ to my late night early morning melted ears.

I agree. "The Machine" sounds like it could have been a hit in the late 80's or early '90's. People have said there's all manner of time cues with the songs on "Symbol."

It is my first listen on the new material and my first hearing Richie sing, ever. Glad things are going well for my all time favorite band. 👍

The first time I heard Richie sing on TSR, I thought of Mike Reno and Loverboy. Can’t remember which song.

A little bit like foreigner, too. If EB gets wind of this, say it was Foreigner...yeah, that’s the ticket. lol.

Or Working for the Weekend...the music and lyrics are definitely not Loverboy, but Richie’s singing definitely has a 80’s vibe to it. Not a bad thing, and yet, he also sounds different than that, at times. Very versatile, I’m sure many would agree.

I had TSR playing all afternoon on Friday, at a level where I could talk and hear. A guy from a mortgage company was on the other line(I am an insurance guy, second generation making sure the curse ends with me) asked me who it was. I think The Machine was playing, I know he liked it. He mentioned Anthrax and metal bands, not my thing unless Tawny Kitaen is in the video. He expressed admiration for Buck and Eric, and Richie got props too. The song is growing on me, but it is not the only one.

I meant to type hair metal bands in my post. It was kind of a strange time when they roamed the planet.
