Fair enough. I think Shooting Shark, Take Me Away, Feel the Thunder, Shadow of California, Dragon Lady, and Light Years of Love make up for it though I still listen to the album every few months. I really like Eyes. Its a treat that we didn't get before and wouldn't get again. The only part of TRBN that I really didn't care for was the electronic drums, but it was the 80's, so....

But those DAMN VEINSSSSSS!!!!!!! I bet if Buck had shelved Veins and recorded it for Heaven, Curse, or Symbol, it would have been one of my favorites. Or maybe if it was resurrected for live shows with Jules drumming. God, imagine Shadow of California with Jules!! He does such a great job with Shooting Shark. Or in general. Shit, I was listening to the new live releases and yesterday I listened to Symbol at work, and I am just blown away by his talent. He really is the best drummer they've had since Albert, no offense meant to the others in between who held the position.

Don't Come Running would have been a MUCH better choice than Eyes on Fire. Don't Come Running fits Eric's personality better I think. It's defiant and slightly angry. I've always found Eyes on Fire to be cringeworthy TBH. The lyrics are kind of like whining, and that doesn't suit Eric's voice NOR his persona. I don't agree either.Eyes sounds more BOC(granted BOC dong a Journey)than Don't Come Running which sounds nothing like BOC tho it's a damn good song and in a way I never really considered what is "BOC ballpark" and Don't Come Running sounds very much 1983 radio ballpark and again IMO if a song is really good ..why the hell not? Of all the new tunes we've gotten I still think The Only Thing is as good as any of them .Was that "ballpark" BOC? Dunno but for me it fits.

After all BOC sounds like what they say they sound like. What I was getting at more was that Don't Come Running sounded much better than Eyes because Eric's voice/persona doesn't lend itself well IMO to the vibe in Eyes. Don't Come Running sounds more "credible" to me coming from Eric, if I'm making any sense (I'm probably not, lol)

He is criminally underrated as a singer.

I prefer Eyes On Fire to this tune. Love hearing these outtakes from GpG, but I can see why they didn’t make the cut, for the most part.

If you told me that was Mickey Thomas and not Eric I would have believed you.

I like that BOC was stretching to see what would work or not. The fact that this song doesn't fit and we can listen in decades later is really fun. But too many commenting here think because it was on tape and demoed that this is somehow a flaw and a misdirection. And then all the fussy analysis from a song I bet none of them even remember they played. LOL!!

Personally it felt funny to do outside material by 'pop songwriters.' I said the only pop songs that I ever felt like might have been written by BOC was "Dancin'" and "White Flags."
Story: We'd played an outdoor show in the Northwest with Brian Adams after Reaper hit. We hung out a bit. Much later Brian is talking in an interview about his hit, "Run to You." He said he wrote it for BOC but we'd turned it down.
I don't think I'd ever heard it when that decision was made. It must have gone to Sandy Pearlman and Murray Krugman, who passed because it wasn't "BOC." Can you imagine if I'd sung that song with BOC after Reaper? On the Spectres record? Would it have been as big a hit for us? I don't know.

Probably would have ended up fitting better on Mirrors than Spectres I'll bet. Maybe Band Geeks could do it as a goof with some special BOC guests lol. I kind of wonder: if Run to You ended up on Spectres and something else were left off, would the one which was left off being revealed as an outtake in 2020 be a point of debate as to how it fits in with the larger catalogue.
