OK. maybe BD can enlighten us - what's an interest of George's that we could celebrate?
I'll need to get an address too, of course.

As much as I like it his version, Buck is my singer of choice and I’ll stick with his.

The small number of superfans like you people can enjoy them. Does that mean that you don't think they are worthwhile because BOC's collective assessment is that only a very small number of people would be interested in them...? If that is the case, then I think you are possibly underestimating their "worth"... I think if BOC commissioned George to put a disk together of this original material, it would definitely sell... And here's the thing - fortunately, as we now live in the internet age, you can actually gauge interest in a project simply by inviting pledges on any potential release and then assessing the numbers who would be interested in buying into that project before even lifting a digital finger towards the realisation of that endeavour... These days, not everything has to have the full weight of a record company behind it - Joe and Albert (and Blue Coupe) have been putting out superb independent albums under their own steam for some years now, creating a rich legacy for fans to enjoy - by all reports, BOC has a rich history of pre-existing recorded material that deserves the chance to pop its head above the parapets and I'd absolutely love it if BOC would do the same thing and give fans a chance to hear them...

Buck's got a great voice and I love Lonely Teardrops, but you gotta admit it's kind of heartbreaking that Allen didn't have the confidence in his own CLEARLY good voice, and that we could have heard more lead vocals of his after True Confessions. There's a HUGE Keith Richards vibe I get from his singing, too. Like, almost uncanny.

Ralph, BD's response is the indicator that the band/management has decided that the ROI on such a project is not worth the effort. That doesn't mean that it wouldn't return a profit, but it would be negligible based on other projects that have more of a profile, and that's where managerial time/efforts/resources go. It might not be the motivator behind sharing art, but business is business. There's a great saying when it comes to business/accounting practices - the suits know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. Let's be grateful GG is sharing some of these wonderful nuggets.

"the suits know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing" ooooh I love that.
but that's where letting others doing the job under licence is a good way to have the best of both world. You can't deny the quality of Rhino or other labels are doing. because, ok, you won't earn 10 times what you bet by doing it that way, but if you don't bet anything and win something, the ratio is even better.

Something about the David Gilmour-esque Buck solo plus the female vocalist fadeout makes Lonely Teardrops one of the top songs in the whole discography. Plus the incredibly poetic lyrics that Allen was just killer at. I'm glad that we got to experience a little bit of his world through his music.
