Yup, Richie Blackmore was an early influence of mine. He was trailblazing with his style of playing. Not too many trailblazers these days, or I just haven't heard them. Oz Noy comes to mind. Nice to be included in that bunch on GP. Buck/BOC getting a decent amount of retrospective props lately. I wonder how much bigger it would have been had not AC bloody DC also decided to release an album this year? Nothing malicious I'm sure, Donnington was quite a while ago.

I got on a tangent. Buck said that it was a good time for getting retrospective props. I countered that there would be MORE BOC props is ACDC hadn't thrown incidental shade at them by releasing their new album at the same time. THEN I was thinking (to myself) BOC was getting robbed now like they were getting robbed back in '12 by Hurricane Sandy. I just couldn't remember what the deal was, was it the 40th anniversary? Okay now I get you. The AC/DC thing just bugs me, because they're just releasing the same song over and over and over again at this point. I mean, their songs always sounded SIMILAR to each other, but now I can't tell a damn one of them apart. [Cue atomic blast sound effect of 200+ million units sold internationally].

ACDC is to music as McDonalds is to comfort food. And I've been know to frequent McD's from time to time but not regularly.

The formula certainly sells. So, to a certain extent, it's admirable they can sustain that almost 50 years into their careers. But to my ears Tbunderstruck is the last interesting song they've ever released.

It's a bit disingenuous to label it as formulaic, they have a style, just like many other successful bands. How many bands have tried the ACDC formula with similar results? Did the Beatles have a formula? It's OK here to think other bands' success or talent can be acknowledged.

How many bands have tried the ACDC formula with similar results? Did the Beatles have a formula? It's OK here to think other bands' success or talent can be acknowledged. How is it disingenuous? Yeah all bands have a formula, but bands like The Beatles had a short career of many varying styles where it's incredibly easy to tell one song apart from another. AC/DC have made far more songs that sound so close to each other in style. It isn't interesting to me, and that's my opinion on the matter, which is as valid as somebody who loves them for the precise reason that their songs sound like what they want to hear. As far as I'm concerned, the Brian Johnson era yielded three albums that were great to perfect: Back in Black, For Those About to Rock, and The Razor's Edge. Everything else is bores me. The last thing though... Since when am I shy about acknowledging the success or talent or my appreciation of other bands and artists? I don't even know where that comes from. I have frequently expressed the most effusive praise of many artists and bands I love an appreciate. I listen to and appreciate music of many varieties by bands and artists too numerous to enumerate in this post, but I've done it throughout many threads and posts here. So I don't even know where that comes from.

A pretty neat tune but to my ears AC/DC was pretty much a one note act while BOC as RS once called them the Fleetwood Mac of Heavy Metal.I realize this is all because of Wenners anger toward Meltzer but IMO AC/DC in the HOF so many years back ahead of not just BOC but many others that took much longer is an affront to the industry itself.

I've made the Fleetwood Mac comparison to people I've been trying to get into BOC before. Multiple lead singers and writers and a wide variety of genres. Like, Rumours is not Bare Trees is not Then Play On..., and Secret Treaties is not Mirrors is not Fire of Unknown Origin. Shit man, now I want to spin my copy of Then Play On. There really were so few people as talented as Peter Green.

All of the invocations of Fleetwood Mac were excellent and they were never more varied than when Buckingham-Nicks joined. In fact I bought that first huge hit album when I heard I'm So Afraid which was the first tune I think they played on the radio. BTW Lauren FM had to do it with different lineups BOC pretty much stayed the same.

Rumours was the biggest fucking album that year. Almost every song was a hit. What was appealing was that it had Stevie Nicks songs, and Christine McVie songs, and Lindsay Buckingham songs...they all got a shot at singing and they all had hits. Having multiple voices and songwriters was a great strength to Fleetwood Mac. For most of us at the time it was our first exposure to them.

I love bands with multiple lead singers in general. BOC, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Cars, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, etc., love em all
