Spoiler alert...but I much preferred the way Mick Garris (and King himself) used it.

I can't even be arsed to sign up for a free trial to watch this mini series. I never thought I'd say that because I loved the first miniseries and I loved the book, but everything I hear is just that this miniseries is REALLY bad. Not even entertainingly bad, just.... unremarkable. Like the John Mellencamp of miniseries

I can’t strongly enough state the level of disappointment I have in this newest reboot.. I’ll watch all of it to say I did, but that’s about it..

It was well used in the first series - the Cult Classic version, of course. USA Today spoiled it for me, it would have been more fun not to know that the song was coming.

I like a lot of John's music, not all. No personal knowledge, he seems like an odd personality from video interviews I've seen.
He opened for us in France for a few shows when he was first starting out with his first record. He never said anything to us, although his band (which hadn't played on the studio recording) was chummy. He was good then, the standout song being "I Need A Lover Who Won't Drive Me Crazy."
He was billed then as "Johnny Cougar," the French MC pronouncing it, "Johnny cu-GHAIR." I don't think I ever saw him smile. Looking back, maybe he was doing a brooding James Dean kinda thing. White t-shirt and jeans.

I Need A Lover was a good tune. Two things about him-he loved oldies and made his band learn about a thousand songs.I think he did Rama Lama Ding Dong in his shows late 80's. When he sang Ring Of Fire with Johnny Cash he tried unsuccessfully to do a Johnny Cash for 2/3rds of the song and it really sounded weird then reverted back to his own voice and that sounded fine.LOL. I liked Jack and Diane and even tho ROCK IN The USA was a good tune he basically was doing Neil Diamonds Cherry Cherry.

I Need a Lover is a great song. But I don't think I've heard any other song of his I've ever liked.

Also, I absofreakinglutely LOVE Neil Diamond, sirrastus. I do this thing to make my wife laugh sometimes when I sing different songs in the style of Neil Diamond or Fred Schneider of the B-52s

Jack and Diane is great, IMO, in the same way "Piano Man" is for Billy Joel. Especially the drum fill in the breakdown. Good story song.
Mellencamp deserves his success. He's a little too formulaic, but who am I to criticize? Speaking of Billy Joel, "Captain Jack" gets respect from BD. I had a nice long conversation with Chuck Burgi lately, who's played drums with Billy for over a decade now. Billy graciously kept his band on salary last year, even though there were no gigs 'cause Wuhan. Good man.

Got to see him live in 2018 and it was a great experience. I have all of his albums from Cold Spring Harbor through River of Dreams, and I rarely skip a song (except for a few on The Bridge). The Nylon Curtain is my favorite album of his by a mile. Mellencamp deserves his success in that he's clearly touched the hearts of many a music fan, just not me lol. I don't begrudge him his success... but I do change the channel when anything other than I Need a Lover or The Authority Song comes on. But I have been known to come around. I really didn't like Bruce Springsteen when I was a teenager. I just couldn't appreciate him. Somewhere along the line I did a 180, because I seriously love a lot of his music. Saw him around 2012/2013, whatever year it was the Wrecking Ball album came out, and he opened with Badlands, and it was just an incredible show from start to finish. He was touring with Tom Morello in the band at the time which on paper doesn't make any sense but somehow it fit. I also didn't like Maroon 5 at all until my wife played some of their early pre-Moves Like Jagger songs. I don't like where they ended up, but having heard where they started I can appreciate that now, as well.
