Shawn Quinn sent me this picture today of the first "Big Rocket," the first stage of the Space Launch System, arriving at the Space Center. It's the biggest NASA rocket since the Saturn 5, maybe the biggest ever. It's going to the Moon. View Attachment>NASA Artemis Search domain nasa.govhttps://www.nasa.gov/specials/artemis/ During the Artemis program, NASA will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before. We will collaborate with our commercial and international partners and establish sustainable exploration for the first time.< They're moving it to the Vehicle Assembly Building. View AttachmentView AttachmentIt came to the Cape by barge. You can see a SpaceX Falcon rocket on launch pad 39A in the distance. Thanks Shawn! You won't see coverage this good on CNN or FOX. NASA has announced targeted launch dates for the Space Launch System Artemis I mission. The dates announced are August 29 and backup dates of September 2 and September 5. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Here’s my brothers (Tim is the one in the sleeveless T-shirt) band jamming with Jimmy Buffet at KSC, they brought him in to play a shuttle program farewell celebration.

It's good to see some big NASA programs coming to fruition. I don't think a lot of people realize just how much day to day technology has come out of the various space programs. I hope things go smoothly. There is a HUGE amount of effort that goes into a program like that.
I'm proud to say that the organization I retired from, along with two NASA centers/labs, developed one of the CubeSats that will launch on the SLS.
