Buck - any clues as to who was the English band at the BOC gig mentioned - but not named - in this Feb 72 Creem article who so wound up R. Meltzer?: In the piece, Meltzer refers to a currently unknown BOC gig at Staten Island's Ritz Theatre that took place on the eve of "Vida Blue Day" in August 1971 - if anyone knows what day that was, please let me know as I'm drawing a blank at the moment... if the band played this gig in Aug 71 as "BOC", then that'd be the first known documented BOC gig - all their other shows around this time were still being played as SFG, despite officially becoming "BOC" at the end of July 1971... Anyway, if I could find out who the unnamed English band(s) was who shared the bill that night, I'll stand a better chance of being able to include it on the gig lists...

LOL You can tell why Meltzer's mouth pissed off Wenner and why he's blocked BOC from the HOF.

Weird -there's no legit reason other than Meltzer getting on Wenner's wrong side. And Wenner,Sandy and Meltzer were buddies back in the day.Anyway where did Wenner deny this(not that I'd believe him anyway especially since he was close to Sandy and Meltzer).).

Vida Blue day was August 15th. Nice tracking down - cheers! So that gives us a date of 14 Aug 1971 for the Ritz gig, if Meltzer is correct (with a big "if"...) > But they played Southampton Breakfast Club this day, so who's wrong ? the band or Meltzer ?
Well, 14/15/16 Aug was only Albert's 'guesstimate' of the dates BOC played there, so they are to be viewed in that context... Interestingly enough, the only bands I know about who played the Ritz on 14 Aug 1971 are Black Sabbath with Sweathog... I'm sure I'd have heard about a BOC opening slot for a 1971 Sabbath show before now, but well, you never know...

Can’t say if Richard M. Can be relied on for details. Maybe. I don’t remember a Staten Island gig, but English bands had a real attitude in general in those days. Every band that came over thought they were The Beatles.
