A lot of hearing loss is age related. I remember seeing cartoons as a kid where the old geezer had a hand held ear horn to help him make out what people were saying. He was bent over and didn't walk too good either. How old was that depicted geezer? Probably about 50! The higher frequencies are the first to go. Some places sold a device, probably banned now, that was designed to keep kids/teenagers out of back parking lots, etc. A loudspeaker-big amp with some mix of annoying high freq tones. Made teenagers crazy and would drive them away. Adults (age unknown) heard nothing and went about their business. I tried the theory just using a PC in my office. I started with a really high sine wave freq, turned freq down until I could hear it, then turned it up a little. Then cranked the volume up all the way. I just head a slight hiss. Within seconds I had an office full of the younger guys (20's and 30') screaming bloody murder!

Went to the San Antonio show Fri Apr 1, second row center. This time I brought earplugs. What a difference from the last show I attended in October. Without the plugs I couldn't hear anything but pounding. That's my screwball ears. With the plugs, WOW, I could clearly hear AND understand just about every word in every song. Music sounded good too. Man, was that nice! And likely helped protect my long term hearing too.
Learned my lesson.
