Oh the music. The fans. The venue. The vibe. So special. So fun. Spent a small fortune. Dont care. A priceless investment in my happiness.
BOC is magical to me like all of us here. The depth and quality and range of style of their music is what turned me on and kept me there over 4 decades ago. Last week was a whirlwind dream and I have been singing songs from it all week. A real high for me. What sticks with me from the music ?
Several times a BOC song Ive heard and enjoyed all my life suddenly really opens my eyes to what it was that at first drew me in beyond the obvious…..which for me was DFTR/ Columbia records newspaper offer of 7 albums for a penny…which included AOF for me. Life changed that day.
Fast forward. About 75 tunes and great moments galore. Including another song Id never expect to make me so happy.
Redeemed. Always enjoyed this tune. But theres so many great ones it is easily taken for granted. I said something recently about Debbie Denise blowing my mind at the Bb King AOF show. Didnt expect to enjoy that so much. Anyways…Redeemed. I recall someone yelling out to play it many years back at a show and EB quipped…”not tonite” with a grin. Understandable. Not top 10 BOC for me but the usual solid tune that blends nicely with the diverse quality album rock they always give us. NYC really opened my eyes on this tune. So very different than the BOC casual fans think of yet so well done.
Great story. Great vocal feel to it. Great musical feel to it. Absolutely killer guitar break in the middle. I mean Killer. And ending in the classic under appreciated BOC vocal harmonies we all love.
What an ending. It made me smile. ”it wont be long, long, long, long, long, long”
I hear it now like they are still on stage at Sony. Pure Magic. I felt the heart of the band as they sang this. They always work so hard to do it right. They really care its right. It was the single moment of so many this weekend that really hit me…again a BOC song and moment Id never expect to blow me away.
Those closing BOC harmonies were great. It actually made me really emotional to hear the beauty of this happening live in front of me and made me think of how lucky I am to love a band that cares so much about even small parts of even their “non-hit” music. Lucky us.
Total professionals that play with such heart and dedication 5 decades later.
So So grateful not just for the music itself but for who BOC are as musicians and as people.
It is inspiring. Thank you Donald. See you in November !
