Not trying to sell this, but this may be of interest to any of you that were involved with the music industry when the "digital age" came about. There is a new mini series on Netflix called "The Playlist". It's pretty good and crams a lot of info into each episode. I don't know how factual it is, but it sure appears to be based on real people and real events. (Edit: one of the trailers says it's a "fictionalized" account)
It isn't a documentary, it's a six episode music drama. It's basically the story of Spotify, it's creators, music piracy ("The Pirate Bay" is specifically referenced), music rights lawsuits, the music industry's resistance to change, compensating the record labels and the artists, Spotify's creators unwillingness to compromise, and the challenges that Spotify faced in trying to launch a legal streaming service. We're about half way into it - where the negotiations and compromises are being fought out. (I did some negotiating when I was working and it rings true to what I experienced: "Nobody gets what they want, but everybody gets more than they had.") We'll see if that continues. You can see more about the series at: www.imdb.com/title/tt11564258/?ref_=fn_al_tt_0Have no fear, the trailer on imdb is in another language, but the series is in English.
