Ranking is a subjective thing. Can we just agree that TSR is a great album? Regardless of mileage , whatever that means.

It's so weird for me seeing "TSR" because I automatically think "Dungeons & Dragons". Can't help it, given that TSR was a major part of my life before I even heard of BOC.

For some bands/artists in the past, the day of CD stores, ranking was easy. The best, for me at least, were titled the same:

Not hard to find other reviews of TSR, or any album for that manner. Like said on here various ways by a number of people, reviews are always subjective. Unless an album is REALLY, REALLY BAD.
So here's another one if you have extra time on your hands (which I haven't). Long: they go through and comment on every song individually.
"This week we discuss the long awaited Blue Oyster Cult album, "The Symbol Remains". After 19 years B.O.C. returns! Wayne Noon, Greg Naugle and Ralph Viera give their opinions on the new album and whether it was worth the wait or not."
FYI: Two of the three reviewers list BÖC in their list of favorite bands. (www.RatSaladReview.com)

“Maybe TSR should be re-imagined as an 8 cut LP. Program it the way you'd like. That's another thing about today. You can do that!” I have 9 in my top 100 on Spotify, would sure hate to be the judge of cutting it to 8. There are songs on nearly every record that I don’t listen to. I don’t base my liking of a BÖC album, on that. My quality barometer is how well it translates, live. To be top tier, the record needs to have at least 3 or 4 songs that are heavy rotation, either official or bootleg live versions, long term. So, with that as criteria, TSR might be middle to top, but we will never know if BÖC would still be playing TSR tunes, live, 20 years from now. Hard to say if I’ll still be listening to TSR tunes, 20 years from now, hope to find out. I do have one exception to my own system. One LP that I love several cuts, most without the benefit of live treatment, at least to my ears. St. Cecilia. Love that record.
