Well that's something I won't read.

It’s ironic because that article’s author’s writing is pretty masturbatory. You can tell he’s really in love with his own perceived genius.

Tim Somer (whoever he is, he doesn't have any internet bio I can find) is right in the pocket of '68-'74 rock journal writing style as was seen in Creem and Rolling Stone of the era. And he's not blasphemous as far as his BOC take, he's not alone in that opinion. I bet he's as old as we are, or he really submerged himself in that period rock journalism.
I wouldn't avoid reading, the article is pretty good of kind, as luxexterior pointed out. Reminiscent of Richard Meltzer and Nick Tosches' writing style. It's OK to disagree with him.

Obviously, "we" represents a large envelope but he was born in 1962, so maybe slightly younger than some, slightly older than others... Sommer used to write for Trouser Press, and then Village Voice before moving onto music TV and other things... Reading this piece, I agree, I think he did read a lot of Creem et al during the 70s whilst "growing up"... but then, who didn't...?

I didn’t even make it to any substantive opinions in the article. The writing style itself was too annoying to get past.

Parts of the article seemed somewhat coherent and mildly interesting, but it kept going off the rails.
(The term "greaser" seems to mean something very different up north (or wherever) than what it means here, which can get you in big trouble. Wikipedia used the movie Grease as an example for describing people that seem to somewhat fit the article's use of the word. We had some Grease-looking teenagers here but they seemed to be referred to as "hoods", mostly just because of their looks. Out in the country where I grew up, just not common. The kids with the souped up cars were middle class and above - they were the ones that could afford that hardware. Like the GTO, Camaro, Corvette, Dodge Charger, etc.)
