I haven't run into many recent BÖC song interpretations, but this one showed up this week. The mini-biography of the reviewer reads:
"Written By Michael Miller -Michael is a music teacher and professional cellist. He loves uncovering the deeper meaning of popular songs."
I don't know anything about him, but here's his analysis for your perusal:
Meaning of “Burnin’ for You” by Blue Öyster Cult September 17, 2023
(It's a little deeper and more academic than my amateur interpretation. And where's his comments on "suns that were freezing and lives that were through"?)

That's actually a pretty well written article. His interpretation is believable, and he has a decent opinion of the song. It was a bit short, but then maybe that's why I didn't get bored with it so....better short than too long I say. Nice find Joe!

He might also have mentioned the "On the Road" connection:

I'm for short versions of articles and opinions too. Some go on and on and on jumping in and out of the topic being discussed. He pretty much avoids that. I think he could have covered a few more aspects of the song, but again I guess I have a more simplistic interpretation, but none of what he says really conflicts with mine. His interpretation is just more abstract and general case. Anyway I found it an interesting read.
Maybe the one man that can give us the best comments will chime in i.e BD.

It was years before I realized Richard Meltzer had copped lines from "On the Road" for "Burnin'."

It was years before I realized Richard Meltzer had copped lines from "On the Road" for "Burnin'." "It’s one of Richard’s more sentimental lyrics, something he’s not known for." Lips in the hills Lips in the valleys Lips that ain't pretty Ain't no lips for me Yeah, I can see why he'd need a little help there.
