Shit I read ...
55 years ago. December 31, 1968: Steve Marriott quits Small Faces by walking off stage during a live New Year's Eve gig yelling "I quit". He had become increasingly frustrated that they could break out of their Pop image. Plus, he had wanted to add Peter Frampton to the band. But that was rejected by the rest. In the meantime, he was helping Frampton by teaming him with drummer Jerry Shirley. Also on the bill that night was Spooky Tooth. Marriott approached their bassist Greg Ridley about the possibility of doing something together. Ridley accepted the invitation. Marriott immediately called Frampton asking "Can we join your band"? The birth of Humble Pie. The remainder of Small Faces later would join forces with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart. Both from the freshly broken up Jeff Beck Group.
