That's Colonel Chris Hadfield who recorded a wonderful cover of Space Oddity.

I love the way he just "placed" the mic there....that was all totally cool! You know there really is a deep connection between engineers and musicians (the best engineers and scientists I know, are also musicians)....it's all math in the end!

That's not the only one he wrote and/or recorded up there. Here is what he said about his recording sessions: Here's the tunes. "Space Sessions: Songs From a Tin Can" from two different sources. I didn't compare the tracks to see what tunes are different from each source. The links will take you to the playlists.

I sort of expected it to sound a bit different -but then its only zero gravity not zero other bits that would effect the sound waves. Loved the mic placement too

I sort of expected it to sound a bit different -but then its only zero gravity not zero other bits that would effect the sound waves. Loved the mic placement too I expect anything with a largish moving mass that can move freely after being set in motion, that then must "strike" whatever set it in motion that is NOT moving freely and had been moved, would sound different, or at least hit earlier or later than what is required to synchronize with the rest of the music, could be off. I know, not worded well.
Excuse the example, but picture a large ORIGINAL-style "rancher's" cowbell with a weighted ball inside that is held on a very low friction pivot. Swinging the bell housing would cause the first strike, then swinging it the other way the ball should hit the housing at a slightly different time in 0 g.
Maybe some other percussion instruments could be affected? Dunno.
I have no way to test this theory though.....
Maybe time to write a research proposal to NASA to study this.
