How ghostly is it in 2024 to have a new official BOC record with almost all the content created by the original members? Joe is well represented here. I think it's a very welcome development, and one which could stand further exploitation - according to the Richie/SS video, a number of tracks fell by the wayside due to quality issues - I should report that a lot of us are perfectly happy with George's original mixes and if the quality drops below optimum in places, we can live with that... Here's an oft-expressed idea: George has all the gigs that went into the July 1975 "Live in the West" compilation, so why not take UFO's "Strangers in the Night" as an exemplar, where they released a separate disk for each gig that provided source material for the album, and do the same for LITW? A Deluxe "Live in the West" set would be a relatively easy win for everyone - we do not care if there's an odd bum note here and there, we'd just love to have these gigs to be preserved for posterity... if you start off with the notion that, "oh, it's not perfect so we can't sanction it", then we'll never get anywhere... I would also advocate for the same treatment for OYF but I just can't see that ever happening because so much splicing between gigs seems to have gone on, with the solo from gig X being dropped into the verse from gig Y, that it just doesn't seem a realistic hope... but, yes, my version of a perfect world would include a Deluxe version of "On Your Feet" also... As Radiohead sang, on their Bends album: "Nice Dream".... Of course, Ralph has my vote !

"Ghost Stories" tunes are mostly George Geranious' master tapes, which were remixed and mastered by Richie Castellano and Steve Schenck. They did quite a bit of work on George's tapes (transferred to digital, of course) using modern tech to deconstruct elements and balances and then reconstructing them in the release mix. Yeah, this is the reason GPG's recordings disappeared from the internets. How ghostly is it in 2024 to have a new official BOC record with almost all the content created by the original members? Any insight would probably be welcome for those of us out of touch.
Or for those just curious and nosy, which is probably everybody here.

Just wanted to say that the animated video for the So Supernatural music video was great! It's going to take me several passes to pick up on the subtle references to this or that, like the Joan headstone. That was cool! Couldn't find a Susy/Susie headstone though. Separates the fans from the first time observer. Gotta see what else I missed.
Hats off to Ritchie.

I found a bunch of Easter eggs, but I am sure there are many more. They appear and go away fast.

In the "making of" video, Richie and Steve talk about how good Peter Jackson's MAL software is and how they had to use the "dime store" version of it, which I found funny, since I just had to de-mix and extract vocals from a recording my late musical partner and I made back in the late 80s. Our stuff wasn't nearly as well recorded as George's BOC stuff (it was originally recorded on a Fostex 4-track cassette machine), so I really could have used MAL. 🤣🤣🤣

Why does Japan get a bonus track? And not Europe or the USA? This really sucks. They should do the same for everyone.

The arpeggiated chords in So Supernatural are a not so subtle reference to/adaptation from Nosferatu (I'm guessing Joe was a big fan of - the song - In the Court of the Crimson King). The melody on the verse matches the feel of the song and sets the mood. IMHO the pre- chorus melody needs more variation...but, it is a nice setup to the sense of stalemate when the chorus kicks in and the melody does an unexpected variation on the latter part of 'so supernatur*al*'; that is the real hook of the song. The bridge/intro to the instrumental smacks of Run to You (ironically); it is a worthy addition to the BOC Canon and is a good reflection of the latter classic era when Dizbusters and Susies had gone extinct and the focus was on solid, semi-personal songs rather than unsettling quirkiness. I personally have always been a fan of Joe's songs even though he uses certain approaches, i.e. the lick after 'burn your eyes out' in HRTH is very close to the descending lick in I am the Storm (is that the only Joe song that Eric ever sang lead on? An indication of Mirrors' politics?) Astronomy and Morning Final have the same approach on their intros also (I personally like the 'song' part of Astronomy, not the endless Em-C-D parts). Eric does the same thing really, the minor boogie riff on Harvester is a contracted voicing of the Subhuman verse chords (different key, Moon Crazy intro also does this, also a different key). As an aside, the Subhuman is probably my favorite Eric composition, the part where it goes to Gm7 (ladies fish) is so pleasing. Has anyone ever noticed that - live - they play the Harvester riff over Lipa in the Hills' verses? Other similarities noted - chromatic descent in Harvest Moon and Transmaniacon, bridge-ending Godzilla lick and Cities on Flame riff. I've often thought that the Redeemed intro stirred something in Allan for In Thee; Lonely Teardrops could have been titled Lonely Underfoot. Allan (the band?) sure was a fan of those repeated octave piano hammerings, Flaming Telepaths, ETI, Marshall Plan. I am really impressed how Albert turned his choppy chord composition style into so many varied songs that work, Cities (que the Wizard; I'm sure our host came up with the riff, then Albert reversed it for Career of Evil), Mistress, Summer of Love, Monsters (blueprint Cities obviously), Marshall Plan, Unknown Tongue,Joan, I Am. When I look at the compositions from the first three, they are all so solid and complete - no fadeouts. The fadeouts started with Agents where an outro solo was an easy go-to (ETI) followed by Searchin', Fireworks, almost half of Mirrors, etc.) I am the Storm, already a shorter song, has a 1 minute outro solo as does Searchin' (probably my favorite outro solo). Going back to Ghost Stories, I find it puzzling how 'the last studio album' just appeared out of nowhere. One would think that there would have been some profile/fanfare/hype as there was with the lead-up to TSR; it's an odd way to launch/mark something so meaningful. I hope it's not an indication of a challenge - personal/administrative/artistic - within the organization.

Nice analysis.....I too am a bit puzzled that the single, and announcement of the album just sort of dropped...very low key. Although there were a few nice articles about it, and Ritchie and Steve's "making of" video is very good. I can say I'm proud of the stir it has caused here on this board. I love the excitement we all have about this new album! BOC fans are "forever fans"!!!

Did Buck actually play on any of the Joe/Albert demo offerings...? BTW: Does anybody else think "The Only Thing that Lasts Forever" should have been the "single"...?

Didn't BD play electric lead on the Light Years of Love demo? I guess what I'm saying he has done so. Yes, The Only Thing was only second in latter day single potential to In Thee, my opinion only. The demo was just ripe for enhancements with harmonies and some additional keys and/or guitars; great tune.
