Buck,
That looked like a great show! And the sound is great on the songs I sampled.
But why isn't Valentine done?
And don't say "artistic license"!

Geez Joe!!!! I listened to that, minus the Valentine, and now I am wondering the same. Itβs like when you forget a word that you use all the time and you canβt think of it. There is this nagging annoyance until you wake up at 3 am remembering what that word is!!!!!

But why isn't Valentine done?
Two possibilities: (a) Simple cock-up, and probably difficult to "fix" when you've only got one recording as a source... (b) Murray "Valentine" Krugman withheld his permission to use that term after a very recent name change... BTW: One thing that I've always wondered about regarding the "la la la la las" bit - did Buck write it like that with that intention, or were they initially simply "placeholders" he put in during the composition with the intention of replacing them with some actual words or relevant phrase at a later date... but after a while, he realised it wasn't really necessary... (?)

(?) Only one person on here can answer our questions.
If I had to venture a guess:
(a) Likely just a oops. Everybody has an "oops" now and then. I've heard some rock songs over the years that either a player or singer hit a sour note or screwed up a lyric. We've probably all heard many that we didn't even notice. And yea this was a LIVE performance - no going back to edit or the released CD/DVD(?) wouldn't be the actual live performance.
(b) I have no history on that one. Hard to imagine killing a major lyric over that. But only the Buck knows.
The "la la la la las": I think it was intentional, but what do I know? To me the "la la la la las" are an important transition from verse 1 to 2 and then 2 to the solo +verse 3. The "la la la la las" give you time to let the concepts of the preceding verse "sink in" before moving on to the next. OR it just sounds cool.
Maybe we'll find out....

To me the la la Las are not fill. The DFTR home studio version from the BD Archives I think shows that. By the way, that version is absolutely awesome IMHO.

I haven't listened, but I think it was a realtime 'clam.' A mistake on my part which wasn't corrected in post production. It happens. I don't mind mistakes, I look forward to hearing them in the recordings that have them.

I think it's the Agoura ballroom Cleveland, 1973, Eric switches up the first 2 verses of TR&TB. As Buck said, it happens. It becomes a historic oddity.

Eric sings "right in front to the back of your skull" instead of "inside the barn where you find the hay"* on the second verse of Harvester Of Eyes from the same release. So it seems mistakes indeed do happen.
*= I think that's the lyric?

That's what I figured. Occam's razor. Thanks for the confirmation though!
Yep, it happens. For any live performer that "it" hasn't happened to, when then that person just hasn't performed enough.

I love this live version of Dying to Believe from The Beths where Liz Stokes forgets the words to the section and says βI forget the next part but listen to that bass!β Itβs my favorite part of the song.

Here's a case where there was a big screw up with most of one verse missing. It's around 3:13. "I'll move myself and my family aside..." then oops. And from the YouTube description:
"Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population."
Ouch - not a good time to mess up. It's probably good they caught it and just stopped singing that part with that many listeners. And viewers. But I wonder how many people noticed or even cared? I had this song memorized because I heard it on the radio on the way home from work every few days for a LONG time. And I didn't catch it the first who-knows-how-many times.
I think they also got a lot of TV networks in trouble for the networks not censoring out a little addition around 8:43.

It would be lovely to have it officially on the streaming services. I did just find the album on YouTube, listening now.
