An AGENT Review of Ghost Stories
This will prolly read like a Fanboy review. These are notes from my 4th complete listen.
I could say “If ‘GHOST STORIES’ were a Woman, I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating Crackers” especially since Lynn Likes this Album A LOT…
“Jump in, there’s room under the covers!”
I’m not gonna be picky like the review I posted from Electric Brain. We really like GHOST STORIES and my only complaint, so far, is having watched the creepy “Don’t Come Running To Me” video before getting my CDs 😊
LATE NIGHT STREET FIGHT
This song starts off with BOC’s Patented Spooky Vibe and gets Jazzy. Absolutely love the Buck solo in his. One word came to mind while listening: WORTHY!
CHERRY
The “Whoa’s” Jarred me in a negative way the first listen. Of course, this is our Ear Worm now. Winnie (Lynn) and I be “Whoa-ing” all over the house…
These Teenage Lovers want to ask… “Where’s The Crime?!?!?”
SO SUPERNATURAL
The first time I played this from the Video, I couldn’t help thinking “How Long can this SONG go on” That didn’t last long. I enjoyed Richie and Steve’s excellent video, as well.
This song has Blue Oyster Cult in its DNA.
WE GOT TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE
***Bathroom Break***
SOUL JIVE
Winnie: “GHOST STORIES is a great Workout Album,” I love everything about this song. It drives hard. A perfect example of how I don’t really pay attention to the Lyrics. I don’t feel the need to drill down to what Albert was trying to convey. I prefer to let individual lyrics roll around my noggin in the moment…DISCO SUCKS!
GUN
Had this one before. Classic Joe submission. Lynn commented “I wouldn’t want our grandson to see those lyrics. No worries, Winnie, I don’t do Words…
SHOT IN THE DARK
Who said, “You miss 100% of the Shots you do not take?”
“Would!”
…It’s growing on me, but not my fave…
THE ONLY THING
This song lets me know how lucky I am to be the AGENT. It’s been an Honor to be an Agent of Fortune all these years. I realize, all these years as a First Level Hanger-On
(thanks, MelneTWF for that Promotion!)
have not been happenstance. It has been quite a ride. These notes were written right after my Social Security Income call. You can call it “Retired” but nothing has been right since the Sony Hall Residency. Many of us got Covid and it didn’t play well with my Multiple Sclerosis…EVER. It’s been a downward spiral since then. Not every day, but no days felt better than the last. I unsuccessfully worked remotely just to have Health Insurance.
Did I retire or give up? Buck turned me on to Glengarry Glen Ross decades ago. We had some great laughs with that. But in the Movie, one of the motivational signs in the Movie was a Quote from Patrick Ryan, who I worked for. Something about reaching for the Stars just out of Reach….
Crossing fingers that I reached High Enough and have a Soft Financial Landing.
But this song is beautiful and reminds me, I am in a different Universe. Not only Retired from Work, but probably from traveling, concerts, driving, even CWSA. While my eyes are a MESS (MS), my ears still work…barely 😊
THE ONLY THING seems like the most non-BOC-like to me. But it IS Buck Dharma…in every way. Allen’s work on GS, especially this song, give me the Warm and Fuzzies.
HOW LUCKY ARE WE?!?!?
KICK OUT THE JAMS
Tissue Break…
MONEY MACHINE
From the first listen, this reminded me of being a door-to-door Life Insurance Agent in The Finger Lakes, working for the Money Machine! Honing my AGENT Chops…
Crazy where your Mind goes, but this song reminded me of a particular day in 1984 or 1985 in Geneva, NY. Many of the Fandom have heard EB Wax Poetic about Hobart College and Geneva, NY. The Hammondsport, NY Show had EB giving The Rock N Roll History of the Finger Lakes.
Working Door-To-Door in Geneva one day, the rural neighborhood I was working, was all A-Buzz when one of the children was riding his bike and got hit by a car (BTW, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who supported my Cycling Jag). He was okay, but everyone in the neighborhood was now more cordial to my Door Knocks.
One Mother said she wanted me to come when her husband was home to write her four children.
I did. The Families last name was ANTHONY.
They told me the kids were Susan B. Anthony’s Grandkids. This flies in the Face of History as SBA didn’t have any children?!?!!?!
Did someone fudge history?
Were they pulling my leg?
Did I hear nieces and nephews and turn it into Grands?
History Shows Again and Again…
…It’s good to be the Agent…
DON’T COME RUNNING TO ME
I wish I hadn’t seen the video of this before hearing the Song. CREEPY. Luckily, the video is fading from being burned on my brain 😊
This is my choice for someone to Cover this. Pretty sure a deft guitar player could recreate this solo, as it’s not the usual complicated BD.
As the Video fades, I like this more and more.
IF I FELL
My Mom had all the early Beatles records. Pretty sure I had this engrained on my Mind in First Grade. This would Pair Well with a BD “BLACKBIRD” or “IN MY LIFE” me thinks…
