Hello everybody, I finally managed to get my hands on this beautiful 12x12" 'mirror' from 1980 which was given out at carnivals back in the day. It luckily survived the shipping from the US to Germany and I'm super lucky and happy to give this holy grail a special place in my collection. Now I've got just one question: Is the paper-frame original from back in the day? Never seen this thing around it; for example on the old BÖC website there's another frame which looks more like a wooden one: blueoystercult.com/Collect-main.html Enjoy the sunday!

If you look at the third picture, there you see that there's the same frame, so I guess mine is an official historic one, yay!

Can't speak to the "frame" but that print is very cool! Funny how Letterman's head was on the pick!

Haha yeah, that's a comparison for the size; I caught that pick last night when Alice Cooper played here. Mine has a wooden frame. Won it at a carnival back about that same time frame. Thanks a lot for the information! For me who's born in 96 it's a wonder how such beautiful merchandise existed and survived. That's the charme of old BÖC stuff! |

Used to see items such as this on the Boardwalk at the Jersey shore. Some of my earliest and fondest music memories were back in 1980-81. Would vacation at the Jersey shore, and head to the Boardwalk at night. Record albums were still big then. I was just getting into music. The vinyl albums would be on these columns which would slowly spin around, lights shining on them, trying to entice visitors to put down their money and win an album. Fire of Unknown Origin was just out, I was 15, and just getting into music. I can still picture that. I was mesmerized. And while I didn’t win FOUO, I did win cassette copies of Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. 😊

In a couple you can see text below what is visible on yours. "ROGER LABON JACKSON '80" is in the lower right. Probably the artist.
Not sure if some were different versions or if some were just cropped. Yours is a good find in any case!

The pictures from the auction are actually from the one I'm owning now. But luckily got it much cheaper than what the seller wanted in the beginning. And although your Etsy-link isn't working (it gives an error if I click it) I probably know what kind of shirt it is - the baseball one with a AOF design on the one and FOUO on the other? Got that luckily in my collection already.  And yeah I also stumbled upon the artist and it once again brought to my mind how impressive it is at what age artists are putting out very beautiful work! Just think of Bill Gawlik (and of course our Öyster Boys!)... Very cool ljp! I had forgotten about those carnival prizes! Nice walk down memory lane, so thanks for that. Also, welcome to the forum! Also thanks a lot tambra; I've been stumbling through this forum for a few years after I got into the BD Archives (not only because I'm working as an archivist but that's another story lol) and registered before the 50th anniversary shows... already two years ago when I flew from Germany to the US on my own. Yep, you're right the etsy link doesn't work quite right as-is. It somehow gets translated to some garbage link with the etsy part at the end.

I think this shirt was a bootleg. I could be wrong tho. I don't remember it as official. Well it looks like there was an "official" 1980 shirt with this drawing, but it doesn't say it was a actual tour tee.
It's in the COLLECTION -> t-shirts menu on the left of the page, then the "MORE T-SHIRTS" selection at the bottom of the page that takes you to the 1980's shirts.
Description says:
1980
Retail tee.
Black shirt with blue logo and band name.
Back not printed.
This shirt was available at record shops and retail stores that sold rock items.
Now what these online vendors are actually selling, who knows.
Just browsing through the whole COLLECTION section you guys had some pretty neat stuff over the years!
