There must have been a reason why J. Geils didn't tour more, like BOC always has, and the Bouchard Bros have remained active and relatively high profile.
They were certainly great, and I'm sure there was a market for their live performances. Myself, I just like to play and sing. I'd probably do it no matter what.

They were certainly great, and I'm sure there was a market for their live performances. Myself, I just like to play and sing. I'd probably do it no matter what. They were pretty hearty road warriors throughout the 1970's, doing the (then) typical routine of record-tour-record-tour to build a following and hone their skill/craft. While they had a few minor hits in the mid '70's (Must of Got Lost), they hit the legit big time with the ubersmashes Centerfold and Freeze Frame in 1982. And...of course...shortly thereafter (1983) lead singer Peter Wolf quit, and while the band lumbered on without the charismatic Wolf, they eventually imploded in 1985 and called it quits. So, yes, once they had a major profile they practically immediately pulled the plug. Starting in 1999 there was the occasional, brief reunion tour and the scattered high-profile show, but that all came crashing down in 2012 when Geils and the rest of the band clashed hard about money, trademarks, etc. The band - minus Geils - continued to tour, scoring some high-profile opening gigs for Bob Seger and Bon Jovi.

Markus, I wasn't really aware of them out there. I meet people all the time that have no idea that we still play.

Buck, BOC is going to be one of the longest running band in history. Look at Golden Earring.

I was surprised to see that he really has few, if any, song writing credits. RIP

Very unique that the Band was his name (and that was cool) but Peter Wolf and the Keyboard player wrote all the songs. It seems that Freeze Frame was their payoff for working so hard in the 70's. Saw them with Southside Johnny in 1977 or 78. Great energy. Looking at the Hot Rails site, looks like they played with BOC average of one show a year(in the mid 70's). Wolf seemed to split off solo and it was J Geils lite, they must've got lost, somewhere down the line.
