No-one does crunchy heavy riffs like Petrucci and Portnoy when they're in the zone, and away from the relentless cheese of Dream Theater. The new Liquid Tension Experiment 3 album is totally recommended.

My favorite Dream Theater offshoot tho is An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess

I've just stumbled on an album by Algiers called The Underside of Power. I know nothing about the band but this is really good & well worth checking out.

While at work today I listened to the first three Allman Brothers Band albums. Their second album, Idlewild South, is one where I keep forgetting just how good it is until I listen again.

I talk about what I love a lot and I try REALLY extra hard to be as positive as possible with music, but oh my God, a friend posted a video from 20 years ago by Limp Bizkit. I tried. I tried with an open mind. I promise I did. But it was just so awful. Fred Durst is just the most horrible frontman and he has the kind of voice that makes me reach for cotton balls to stuff in my ears.

This is interesting. Circles in Time by John Holden, a UK solo artist. It puts me in mind of the good bits of The Alan Parsons Project. Unfortunately there aren't that many song clips on YouTube apart from the trailer.

Makes me feel like I'm hearing an ad on WNEW-FM in the 70's.

Right this very second, I am listening through The Soord Sessions Vols 1-4 by The Pineapple Thief. It should really be presented as a Bruce Soord solo album but I suspect he's realised he will sell more by calling it a TPT album (and why not). Bruce recorded four sessions during lockdown in 2020, just him, his guitars and his pedals. Very very enjoyable. I've been a fan almost as long as I've been a fan of Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, a long time with a lot of CD/vinyl/download purchases in that time. These sessions are as good a sampler of his writing as you can get.

Good to hear it's a high quality package.

Randy, have you tried the store at the Pineapple Thief site? Their UK postage cost was much cheaper than Burning Shed which is where I usually order their stuff so their Canada costs might be lower too. The basic collection is 40 GB Pounds before postage costs.
