Having just read Mick Farren's excellent memoir Give The Anarchist a Cigarette,I decided to checkout the Psychedelic Trash Rock that he was famously involved in ; The Deviants & The Pink Fairies(who included one time Motorhead guitarist Larry Wallace & Hawkwind bassist Paul Rudolf).
It's interesting stuff, The Deviants are better than I remember psychedelic proto Punk with wit & humour. The Pink Fairies can cover a spectrum from brilliant to awful on one album & occasionally on one song ! They are both hugely entertaining & The Deviants first two albums Ptoof! & Disposable & the Fairies What a Bunch of Sweeties & Never Never Land have pretty much taken up squatters rights over my CD player for the last few days. In fact listening to this stuff again I think that The Deviants & the Fairies plus their contemporaries Third World War are Punks' missing link. The USA had The Stooges & The MC5 etc as trail blazers & Britain had these guys which they don't appear to receive the credit for. Give them a listen you might be surprised. Love the Fairies. Walk, Don't Run! "Do it!"

How is this record 21 years old already? My Favorite Headache - Geddy Lee. Geddy never made many non-Rush appearances so this has always close to my heart. If you ever wanted to hear Geddy Lee with another drummer (in this case Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam/Soundgarden) then listen to this.

In honour of the recent and premature passing of singer David Longdon (only 56!), I am playing this superb piece of music. A song about trains by a band about trains.

Genesis. Everything and anything.
Just saw their The Last Domino? tour Monday night. It was wonderful. A flood of memories of my youth and when I got into them as they went through songs like Afterglow, Carpet Crawlers, and others. 40 years…
I feel for Phil, relegated to sitting in a chair for the performance. He still commanded the crowd, though, still had the dry sense of humor. Can’t help but feel his sadness of not being able to walk the stage, and play the drums. But his 20 year old son did a very fine job, and sounded like his Dad at times.
Loved it.

I relistened to Is This It by The Strokes today and I forgot what a solid album this was. They were inescapable in 2001/2002, and for good reason. That whole Garage Rock revival around that time was impressive.

Sean Filkins - War and Peace & Other Short Stories. Very good classic British prog, heavy when it needs to be, classic prog without reverting to clichés.

Phil would run up a flight of stairs to play drums and sing, then run down to front the band. Sad to say, but we all get there.

Before Van Morrison and Them did this Brill Building tune The Exciters who had a huge 1963 hit Tell Him did the original as they also did with Doo Wah Diddy Diddy. The girls Brenda,Lillian and Carol knocked it out of the park on this Bert Berns penned tune.As an aside I met the girls in the mid-90's at an industry party at Mickey Mantles(lots of cool people there including Bobby Vee,Les Paul,Don Covay Buddy Bailey and Harold Winley of The Clovers among others)where The Exciters sang Tell Him to the backing track of the record and Paul Schaeffer who was standing next to me said "Oh Wow".Needless to say a fun evening.Got to speak to Covay about Marvin Gaye's early days as a Moonglow.
