Heard this for the first time in probably 20-30 years and Wow...I'd forgotten how good that first Steely Dan album is! Love this tune! So simple but so well done...

I put on Heaven Forbid today and It still sounds fresh to me. Tho I've heard Still Burning a hundred times, I pick up guitar licks and fills I hadn't noticed before. Kinda like re-watching a Monty Python movie. I would love to learn more on how Buck recorded this track.

My personal fave from that album is probably Harvest Moon followed by Live for me, Damaged, X-ray but I do love "Still Burning" too! You are right....always some nuance to discover in Buck's playing. He is the Master!

If I had to pick one BÖC album that really stands out for me it would be Heaven Forbid, but of course some of my most faves from other albums would be missing. I guess that's why some bands release greatest hits albums, but my greatest may be somebody else's worst.
Harvest Moon is my fave too. Loved it the first time I heard it - never get tired of it. Tells a great story loosely based on facts and legends Buck was familiar with if I remember right. It's here on the forum someplace. I've head that if DFTR had never happened, HM might have been "it". Dunno, it didn't "the Reaper" factor though. It's still ONE of Buck's best.
Damaged is really cool too, especially for those of us familiar with "The Island of Doctor Moreau". The line "Moreau’s half & half-man" gave that away! Read that in elementary school, saw the movie later on. I suggested on here that Buck play it live sometime, but he said it's really difficult for him to do live. I've never found a live version. I think he said he might consider it in conjunction with the Band Geeks.
X-Ray Eyes surprised me at first since I watched it as a kid and was impressed with the ending. The Ray Milland part gave that away.
Live for Me is a great listen for a tragic story told well. The clarity of Buck's vocals is great. I heard that it was based on a true event, I don't know what of if that is even true.
Hammer Back makes the list too - great lyrics.
FYI: John Shirley played a part in all of the above except HM. That explains the sci-fi factor.
Five great ones on a 10 track album is a pretty high percentage for me...

A band I had forgotten about -The Tubes- came up in conversation last night and I spent some time today revisiting. How they slipped from my memory is beyond me. A truly talented group that's kinda Zappa-esq. And truthfully, who among us doesn't want an autographed picture of Randy Mantooth or a baby's arm holding an apple?

One of the two best soul records ever made-the original and still the best:

Something a little different than what I normally listen to. "Lucifer". Stumbled on it during a general BOC search.
"Don't get me wrong, Lucifer V still bears a distinctly vintage vibe, similar to the scene in Halloween when the girls are driving around listening to "Don't Fear The Reaper." But it's all presented in an updated form that takes the best from bands like Blue Öyster Cult, Heart, UFO, Uriah Heap, and Coven and crafted into a rich and consistent package."
The band "Lucifer" was formed in 2014 (10 years ago) in Berlin. The front woman's name is Johanna Sadonis. Actually pretty good for a "recently formed" rock band. Haven't listened to any of their other tunes.
"Lucifer's style musically and physically is retro, influenced by the 1960s and 1970s. Sadonis and Andersson both feel the "slick and polished" sound of modern recording techniques is inferior to the music from those decades. Speaking of the first album, Sadonis said it was recorded live with analogue equipment, so "you hear the little flaws. It's not over-produced because that would take the life out of it." Sadonis is particular about the visuals, saying "I like the presentation of the band and I think it's part of the ritual to kind of bring across the message of the music. It's meant for all senses, for your brain, for your ears, for your eyes, everything."

Yea, cool! More than just something buried in the background. The video seems to bring in front and center, but you do have to pay attention. They are apparently fans. Lots of other retro imagery in the video you posted.
Here's another reference in "Johanna & Nicke from Lucifer picks the best albums from 1975". Apparently Buck fans too. She admits "You can't beat Buck I guess".
I made it easy for you in the one below, starts at one of their album picks.
They also did a DFTR cover at a live performance:

The Symbol Remains has found it's way back to my turntable/CD player this week. Four years eh? Still sounding great.

Once Albert was gone from BOC, my interest in BOC began to wane somewhat and my affections were largely supplanted by U2, who soon became my go to favourite band during the early to mid-80s... however, around 1986-87, for about a year, a different Irish band began to capture my interest, forcing U2 onto my mental back burner - Cactus World News. I've just been playing their "Urban Beaches" record today and remembering how much I liked them - here's their first single:

Somehow I missed this lot. If it's all as good as this I need to get up to speed! They only had a short shelf life, unfortunately - I've heard people say it was because the singer was so erm... camera-unfriendly but that's a very unkind accusation... BTW: Eamonn Andrew's son was the bass-player and that was a fact that got mentioned in any review or article on them, almost as if it was a case of nepotism writ large, but that never made any sense to me...
