It's taken me awhile to write this, but now that the meet and greet pictures were posted, I'm pretty happy to now share about last week's show!
I left the house for St. Charles earlier than usual, because I was attending my first soundcheck. I was worried at first about not being able to get in, because I was running a little late, but by the time I arrived, I was surprised to find myself being the only one there. I thought a lot of VIP members weren't there because they didn't receive an email about soundcheck like with the meet and greet from the venue, which did turn out to be the case with a couple I met later on that night. Regardless, it was a pretty interesting experience. Eric Bloom also returned after being sick for a short while.
There was a few instances where I got nervous where I thought I was about to be asked to leave for being the only VIP member to show up, but thankfully, I was able to watch BOC at soundcheck til the very end. I was surprised when they started playing a little bit of Pink Floyd and a little bit of jazz. (Which reminds me of something that was posted here before...https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=77&v=oyT8Bm2_qf0).
Full songs played during soundcheck (just from my memory):
1. Summer of Love
2. Harvest Moon
3. Dancin' in the Ruins
After that, I met up with my parents, who had picked up the illustration poster and went to some sales. We hung around town for a bit before heading to Club Arcada. It's on the third floor of the theater building, and getting inside, we found Ron Onesti, who said that if I bring my poster to one the security guards, then he'll have it signed by the band! Then one of the flapper girls led us to inside the actual club area, which has a bookcase as a hidden door, which is probably my favorite design feature of this place. We all had steaks while I ordered some chocolate cake to-go. This was our first time there, and after the first visit, we really loved it! We're thinking about re-visiting when Kip Winger drops by.
After grabbing the poster from our truck and handing it along with the sharpies to the security guard, we went to our seats, and while waiting for Mark Farner, I got to hang out with some fellow fans.
The big opening act for tonight was Mark Farner, and I gotta say, I was blown away by his performance. This is my first time seeing him, and after that night, I definitely want to see him again! I personally hope that he'll do a headliner show the next time he's at the Arcada.

It was during the show after the first song that me and my dad headed in line for the BOC meet and greet. About five minutes before heading down, one of the security guards told me about how much BOC really loved my poster and wanted a copy, which made me all the more excited to meet them downstairs!
In my opinion, this is the best Arcada meet and greet I've attended out of all of them (not counting informal encounters). I love that I was able to talk to each and every member instead of feeling like I have to jump to one (two at most) due to time constraint. I can get why the venue has to keep the line going, but it's nice to get to interact with everyone for a little bit.
Say ARRRRRRR! (I still gotta work on that. )
Andy didn't get a chance to see the actual poster, but Richie had sent him a picture of it, who told me that he was amazed.
After that, we went back to our seats to catch up with Mark Farner, and funny enough, my mom caught one of his drumsticks!
BOC was up next after Mark Farner, and I gotta say this; this is my new favorite show from all the times I've seen them! (2012-2017) They really kicked ass during the first half with many songs I've never been able to hear them play until now, such as Joan Crawford, I Love the Night, Summer of Love, and many others. Looking back, their setlist was also a lot longer than usual. Here's the setlist:
1. Summer of Love
2. The Golden Age of Leather
3. I Love the Night
4. Burnin' for You
5. Joan Crawford
6. Dancin' in the Ruins
7. O.D.'d On Life Itself
8. Harvest Moon
9. The Vigil
10. ME 262
11. Buck's Boogie
12. Then Came the Last Days of May
13. True Confessions
14. Godzilla
15. Buck's Solo
16. Don't Fear the Reaper
Encore
17. Hot Rails to Hell
18. Cities on Flame
Now that's what I call a BOC show. I've been wanting to hear some more variety in their setlists for quite awhile now, and this setlist had me hooked throughout the night. There were some technical issues I had with some vocals being overpowered by the instrumentals in some songs, but overall, it was a unique performance that I'm glad I was able to catch. After 'Don't Fear the Reaper', Jules handed me a pair of drumsticks. He's really nice, and since the Cinefest show from 2015, I've been getting drumsticks from him.
After the concert, me and my dad went over to the security guard from the meet and greet to get my poster, and much to my surprise, I was invited to come back downstairs. (Sorry, no photos.) Danny really wanted to see me again so we could talk about how to send it to him. Just from hanging out with him, I'm gonna really miss him once he's done filling in for Kasim for the year. Personally in my opinion, Danny has been BOC's best bass player from the band's modern lineup. I like Kasim too, but when it comes down to playing live shows, Danny just has so much energy and passion onstage, and to talk to him in-person from being invited downstairs made my night.
Richie was there too while sitting down, who told me that Andy was jazzed to find that he was in the picture! I know I don't have much to say here, but it was cool to find him down there too.
Then as me and my dad were about to head back up, we saw Buck pop out of the orange dressing room, who also got to say hi and wanted a copy, and was overall really sweet.
It was overall a great day and an outstanding night, and I hope to see shows like this again next year!
