Just saw this for the first time today:
I think they'd have benefitted from a run through before playing it live, and establishing where the cues were etc, plus it might have been useful to at least have a glance over the actual lyrics before the gig etc - in general, a spot of preparation would NOT have gone amiss... plus the expressions on all the singers' faces look as if somebody's holding their kids hostage or something unless they sing the song, so I'd like to have seen a little more enthusiasm all round, to be honest...
That said, I found two points of interest in this piece:
(a) Just listen to that cheer that greets the opening chords in the dark - and this wasn't a BOC crowd, per se, so it just goes to show the osmotic reach that Reaper seems to have achieved down the years...
(b) Before they come out of the solo, they introduce a brief passage of trumpet and sax which start to take the song somewhere else for a moment - and I thought that was interesting - but then the guitarist starts off trying to replicate the ebow sustain thing back into the verse by playing the wrong note, and that sort of wrecked the effect...

I agree, not a bad cover. The messed up the lyrics took me out of the song a bit though. The audience definitely sounded excited.

Interesting. The bass player actually smiled, Dave nearly did, twice & the guitar player lost it in the middle. Audience loved it though, that's the power of a great song.

I saw an interesting episode on House MD that had Dave Matthew in it as an idiot savant. He was a whiz on piano and House was really impressed that he finished the song that House wrote years ago.
House brought a piano in his room to hear him play. Dave ended up with half of his brain removed and ended his musical ability but now was able to learn how to care for himself.
Very interesting story between father and son.
