This is Jim Valentini's legendary 8mm film of BOC in Minneapolis. Digitally cleaned by Daryl Maxwell. Eric and the band are at peak power. Proud to see this available on youtube.

As I said numerous times, best Astronomy solo ever ! this is as important as the Paris 1975 footage !!! (but why wasn't that released before ?)

I have a question, though. it seems you played at the time the epic solos (Astronomy here, Veteran otPW in 1981) with the Fender, and not the Vulcan. Is there a reason ? Because of the whammy bar ? or because the Fender is faster ?

I was at that show!!! Don't remember much of it except I had just bought a new car. A black Trans Am!!! Also had a hot girl with me that night. Probably had my mind on other things...Dan

All Daryl has to do now is try and graft this soundboard version on to the footage - the soundboard version really lets you hear all the whammy-tastic nuances of that particular solo, although it does have a slightly annoying rumbling sort of "crackle" in places...

BTW: Just spotted this message by GpG in the comments section of that soundboard version:
I am happy to see that the large flock of show cassettes I released into the wild years ago have found new life and spread the Legend of the Cult far and wide. This was a wonderful set to mix...
I am retired now and don't really do any live mixing. I love all the killer tools available now to sound people and I play with them in my modest home studio. I consider myself very fortunate to have worked with the Oysters during that great era of music.

i think that is the bolt on neck strat with the bill lawrence pickups.most likely still a nice playing and sounding guitar in the roeser collection.you can really see how quick he is and a sweep or two in there.LEGENDARY !!! and then some !

WOW, you know I love a challenge! There may be two versions of this classic Astronomy!
Per Jim, this was shot on Super 8mm, transferred to Betamax, transferred to broadcast BetacamSP, and I imported the files digitally a few years ago. The whole clip had a flicker, every other frame darkened. I did a slip trick and some color correction.

There may be two versions of this classic Astronomy! :-) BTW: Bolle is bound to have a better version of that soundboard should you ever get the urge... :-) Also - did this Valentini bloke shoot any other footage...? And how come he didn't get bounced by security at the time? Or was he "official"...?

Buck is using the white SG, the sound is different but still marvelous. The Solo lacks the whammy bartastic parts but to my ears makes up for it with the sheer fluidity of the sound Buck wrings from the guitar. The footage also features Eric's wrist laser which is a bonus.

Jim shot A LOT of Super8 footage. He befriended the band and his footage has remained out of circulation.
