While listening to several cd’s this week, I wondered how you have co-written songs with other people, Buck. Is it customary to be in the same physical location with someone? Have you worked over the phone in the past? Have you traded demos with people? You have written with people like Dick Trisman, Jim Carroll, John Shirley. Could you give some of the background on how your collaborations took place? Thanks! Mark

I can't answer how Buck collaborates writing songs, but I can tell you how we did the "Feel Blame" video. We threw ideas around and I spent a few days coming up with a rough cut. Then, instead of making a change at a time with rough cuts I set up a camera and aimed it at my edit screen. We then spent a couple of days doing Facetime edit sessions. It was like we were sitting in the same room. It worked great! I'm sure we will do that again for the next 'special' video.

Daryl, Thank you for your insight into the creative process. It is clear that a lot of effort went into the “Feel Blame” video. Thank you for making it. The ability to work together while in separate locations, even different time zones, is a huge benefit thanks to today’s technology. I was sure FaceTime would have a place for artists today. Mark

Most co-writes where there is a lyric written happens after the lyric, so not collaborated in real time. Most early BOC songs were written during rehearsals, so the music co-writes were done on the spot.

Cool. Thanks, Buck. I imagine it was virtually impossible to schedule a face to face writing session with a non-band member a few years ago. Songs created in rehearsals with band members and FaceTime (these days) with other people makes sense.
