Buck - a while ago I saw reports of an early BOC gig at Delta College, Bay City MI - but nobody seemed to be sure if it was from 1972 or 1973. But the main reason for my interest was this report:
"My first concert was Blue Oyster Cult at Delta College Gym (Bay City, Mi area) in 1972-73 (?)- I was 13. The concert was on the local UHF TV station (channel 19) - I thought that all concerts had TV cameras in attendance for a while after that..."
I sort of dismissed this - it sounded too good to be true - an early filmed BOC performance...? Surely not... The niggling doubt, though, was the guy was pretty specific, even down to the channel number...
Anyway... fast forward to last week when I came across the following TV listing from the 4 July 1974 issue of The Detroit Free Press:
If you check it out, at 6.30pm you'll see there was a half-hour long programme called "Patchwork" which featured "Blue Oyster Cult, nationally-known hard rock group"...
Check out the channel number: channel 19!! A quick google revealed this to be a PBS UHF station based in Delta College, MI!!! Not 1972 or 1973, of course, but this is too much of a coincidence not to be that unknown Delta College gig....
I checked with Bolle and he reckons he'd heard a report once from someone who said they'd seen this show, but he had no evidence that it was ever broadcast. Well, we have now... logic would suggest that an archived tape copy must SURELY exist somewhere...
As this performance would represent a Holy Grail for ALL BOC fans, and would make a wonderful Xmas DVD release - - couldn't you set Mr Schenck on the task of investigating what became of the master tape for this show...?
I know that everything that he's looked at so far he's deemed to be "not worthy", but I don't care how muddy the sound might be or how dark the picture might be, this would be the bee's bollocks so far as all BOC fans would be concerned and we would all just love to see it!!...
