Well he may have missed the point/joke but he's right about one thing..............it isn't very funny.

Sorry, but I find it VERY Funny!
I had to speak at my Bike Team meeting about Riding With MS. I revolved it around "MORE COWBELL!" and Our Successful fundraising efforts. Told all the riders when they heard the Cowbells to say "MORE COWBELL!" and think about why we were riding. I heard about 2 dozen bigtime Cowbell folks on the 150 mile route. They got it!

My take on the sketch is that it is a parody of “Behind The Music”, poking fun at its over-dramatization of band trials and politics. Also, a perhaps accidental poke at BŌC, for not having the typical drama, rags to riches to break up based on drugs or excess or ego, so they fabricated some angst with studio politics ala cowbell. Overthinking, sure. So the real humor is Ferrell’s silly slapstick shtick and the always funny deadpan Walken.
