Somebody posted an early live version of Wings Wetted Down that had an extended guitar jam. What if THAT became the dual-guitar set-piece? Everybody would lose their minds in the best way, plus Richie could do the vocals since it was originally a Joe song and he has been doing Joe's old vocals WWD circa '73 live kicks ass. What I really liked was the first variation of BTKAR with the stop start parts once the bass part finishes.Probably the heaviest version tho nothing tops the guitars in the original.

Thinking of OYFOOYK, today…what I love most, about it, is the fact that there’s so many great mini-jam outro’s, Hot Rails, Before The Kiss, etc. reminds me of why BÖC is my favorite band, the live version of songs is nearly always preferable, to me, than the studio version, because of the added guitar work. Same with SEE, Astronomy, ETI, DFTR, RUR2R, especially those, way cooler than the studio. The whole band, the arrangements, but especially Buck. Still rings true, today. “It’s why they are needed, it’s why they are here.” So, the last thing I’d want would be a show with medleys, even if we got to hear songs they never play, but condensed. Give me fewer songs, with killer fills and outro riffing. Harvester without the boogie ala 1978, or ME262 without the 5 guitars Mark I, not a fan. It’s like Reaper on AM radio without the middle evilness, just no. While I’m at it, ya know what would be awesome? Moving the LDOM jam to…wait for it…Box In My Head. Hot Rails on OYF is like the Twilight Zone never been topped probably never been equalled-the Buck guitar comes out of heavy fog of sound and just rips into another level. As for ME262 5 guitars brought tears to my eyes just seeing it again as BB Kings the AOF show.It had been way too many years. Of course ETI studio is awesome the subsequent live performances were just ripe for those changes/additions took a great tune and made it an all-time standout. What Astronomy became live should be illegal it was so good.

Actually, what I really think is that extended controlled jam, like Veterans ETL era style, or Astronomy SEE - Cult Classic style rule ! fast, controlled, melodic. The LdoM jam is more "let's play as fast as possible" and it's not the same. yes it may be fun, but maybe it could be tried on a recent track (like Alchemist with his dual guitar part). well, just my 2 cents anyway...

Do many of you think the current BOC performance jam-arama LDofM damages the song? I guess it must compared to the studio or OYF version. Who is pining for the original doom-rock version? I love the original, but also absolutely love the current version - for me it's a highlight of your shows!

The first time I saw BOC back in 1978 I only knew 2 of their songs but by the end of the show I had become a fan and have been ever since. For that show I would have to say that LDOM was the highlight for me. Buck’s extended, slow, haunting, melodic guitar solo, and the laser show during that song made such an impression on 19 y.o. me at that time. So, I would have to say that I prefer the first album and OYFOYK versions simply due to the nostalgia and memories that come to me when I hear those versions. Nothing wrong with the modern version though.

I generally prefer the live version of every BOC song. Last Days of May is no exception. I love watching new takes on the old idea unfold in real time.

Do many of you think the current BOC performance jam-arama LDofM damages the song? I guess it must compared to the studio or OYF version. Who is pining for the original doom-rock version? Some of the acronyms describing the various versions elude me.....anyway:I guess I personally take a simplistic view of the studio version vs. the guitar extended version(s), like with you and Ritchie: 1.) I see the studio version as the haunting version that tells the tragic story the best, but it is short at 3:30, and is well suited to OFF STAGE audio-only listening; 2.) I see the guitar extended version as the LIVE ON-STAGE PERFORMANCE version, also well suited to online streaming WITH video. On stage at a show could you re-create the echos, background vocals, and general creepy atmosphere of the original for the audience? And remember it would be short at 3:30 so how would the crowd react? Guess it could depend on the crowd and venue. (I don't know, I'm not a musician, just asking - I know you could do a good job with it ) I think many, if not most, go the trouble and expense of attending a live show to see a PERFORMANCE by the band. I don't want to say that "sound quality" comes in second place, but people want to SEE you guys, play, move around, goof around, and generally give them an experience that they can't get from audio only. The guitar extended version gives them more of that than the original version. (just my opinion) If I had heard LDOM for the very first time ever on the radio, I'm not sure I would have liked the guitar extended version nearly as much as the original. How does all that guitar work fit into the overall story of the song? (FYI I heard the original version first and loved it.) BUT, now that I have seen the extended version live and very up close, and on videos, the guitar work makes sense and that's generally what I listen to. I can picture how everything fits together in my mind. So no, I don't think the extended version "damages" the song. I think you just have two different versions each with it's own place in the scheme of things.

The OYF version really captures the mood of the composition. Honestly, I'd rather the guitar jam be moved elsewhere, like The Alchemist. Stretch that puppy to 15 minutes! Actually, in all seriousity, blow out the outro to The Red & The Black. *There* is a place for extended jams. Give Danny some action there too.

I love any version of this song, but still miss the lasers. An innocent question: Is the invitation to come along lyric based on a connection to the event? Not trying to be creepy.

Go to the hotrails site that duckbarman posted. Do a text search for the following phrases:
"after Tait joined them from New York, to buy the marijuana from a man in Douglas, Howard said"
and
"According to Anderson's testimony, he went to Phoenix to make a large marijuana purchase, met gast and was eventually introduced to Lewis and Doyal. When the deal got too big for Anderson to finance, Anderson said Tait was invited in and flew to Phoenix."
-------------- From LDOM lyics:
"I'm leaving soon, the others are already there."
My interpretation is that Tait was the one that was leaving soon since he was invited in later and flew to Phoenix. The others (Lewis, Doyal, Anderson, Gast) were already there. Assuming the newspaper articles are correct, which I believe they are, the ending of the song should make sense. The song ending is really before the murders occurred. Really clever for Buck to include it at the END.
This is from memory: Before I found the hotrails articles I tried to piece this together on my own. There were a number of articles, including pictures, printed in some Phoenix and Tucson papers. And one or two from New York. Most actual articles were behind paywalls, but the text was sometimes available, but all scrambled up in pieces. I spent way too much time putting the pieces together but came up with a lot of the same information that is on hotrails. I did manage to find some additional exact dates, more details (like about getting the extra cash), and an interview with one of the victim's father. I was going to clean the mess up and post what I had, but it got way too time consuming to clean up and to credit the original sources. The bottom line of the mess agreed with the hotrails phrases above that "one was leaving to go meet the others already there". (The "mess" is not suitable for general consumption, so don't ask for a copy!)
