I was fortunate to have a great guitar teacher in high school.Mr.O. I stuck with it and enjoy it immensely. The song to figure out the next few days is George Thoroghgoods "Who do you love?". By Mr. Bo Diddley, heard it on my way to work last week and it is still stuck in my head. Hindsight is 20/20. I wish I would have found somebody to teach me SOMETHING back when I was in jr high or HS. I didn't know it until of my later HS reunions that the kid about 1 year older than me that lived a few houses down had a garage band, which from the size of his house and property, was probably based in his garage. I found out they played at a number of the HS hangouts in the area on a regular basis. A really nice guy, I'm sure he could have taught me SOMETHING. Oh well.......I can still listen. I was offered a bass guitar once for free, probably not an expensive one but not junk either, but I turned it down since I didn't know what to do with it. I probably could have worked a deal with somebody to trade it for a regular guitar. Then not long after that I ended up with a guitar amp and fairly large matching cab. I think it was a prototype from "someplace" and it had some problem, but I'm sure I could have got it working. I had tubes and other components running out my ears back then. I found a dump where the FAA would dump their tubes after they had some certain number of hours on them. They worked fine in other junk I had. Some were real common ones that a lot of audio equipment used. But no guitar, so I finally gave it way. If I had both at the same time I may have gotten motivated enough to at least start picking at it and develop a real interest in learning something. After all I would have had to pick at the guitar to test out the amp I would have been worked on. Like I said - hindsight.

I have recently been going thru what I regard as classic albums of the past....yesterday I listened to Chicago V. I forgot how progressive this one was, with the lone hit 'Saturday in the Park'. Man, I wish I got to see Terry Kath play live....what a monster on the guitar, and such a soulful voice....RIP.

The Red and The Black version of "Perfect Water"....I love the BOC version too but Buck's guitar on this version is just "Perfect"! A bit more hard driving and distinct. If you've never heard it...it's worth the time for sure.

Has a special meaning to me and my daughter.

If you've never heard it...it's worth the time for sure. I stumbled on this one awhile back. I think my comments back then were pretty much the same as yours. Yep, it's more hard driving, especially if you have a pretty decent sound system at home and crank it up! This version has one of the several VERY MINOR lyrics variations. Buck and I got into a long back and forth discussion about what were the "correct" lyrics. This version in one place has ".. perfect water washing over me. He told me it's "passing" everywhere, and I think he now performs all with "passing over me". As if it makes any difference at all. He said something to the effect of invoking artistic license to perform slightly different depending on circumstances. This was REALLY a nit pick, but one thing that came out of it is that I now have Perfect Water 100% memorized! Another thing that came out is DO NOT TRUST ONLINE LYRICS DATABASES. Most of them have several parts of this song completely screwed up. I don't think you'll find a single one with the "bride" part anywhere unless PW is on the old BOC website. Can't remember.

Has a special meaning to me and my daughter. It's one of my very favorite BOC songs. Wife says the same thing. We listen to it almost every night. Just something about it. Wish he would have performed it at the last concert we went to. The one we watch/listen to is one on YT that has two songs from the Long Days Night concert together: Harvest Moon, then Perfect Water. Great sound and you can really see the guitar work. Plus Harvest Moon is another personal favorite.

I don't know a lot about Jim Carrol's other work but this song makes me want to learn more. And Buck's musical interpretation is nothing less than magical!

Gotta dig those groovy backing dancers, daddio... BTW: don't think the bass player got the "must wear a single black glove memo"...

Listening to 2 of my favorite songs on the planet....from the BD Archives Vol 1.
1. ECPI - Bucks lyrical wit is awesome here....I remember those commercials for ECPI growing up in VA. But what really turns me on is that winding, mesmerizing lead that is a journey all by itself! Sorta reminds me of Ernie Isley's lead in "Who's that Lady"....similar sound and vibe.
2. The BD Archives version of Shooting Shark is also a phenomenal piece of guitar mastery. I could listen to that over and over and never tire of being immersed in its perfection.
Heck I play that whole album over and over alot. Such a great variety of thought, sound and feeling generated there....We should all be grateful Buck chose to release this stuff 'cause it's amazing!

Shooting Shark sounds like the album and live performances, but somewhat different of course. Very good. I think Shooting Shark is one of their "underrated" songs. ECPI - not familiar with that one, but didn't have time to listen to the whole track tonight. Did it turn into something else or am I just not getting the acronym?

ECPI - not familiar with that one, but didn't have time to listen to the whole track tonight. Did it turn into something else or am I just not getting the acronym? Don't know how far you got into it but there's a wicked sounding lead break that sounds like Ernie Isley ( to me anyway) that just totally resonates to my state of mind whenever I hear that song. I guess I'm particularly amused by that song because of it's pure sarcasm of the old ECPI commercials. It's obvious Buck must have had the same impression of them that I did. Maybe it won't resonate unless you heard those commercials back in the eighties but it makes me grin everytime I hear it! It's just so perfectly devilish in it's delivery and message. And I just really like the sound of that lead break....not over the top but solid and is such an unusual departure from the rest of the song. Listen to the whole thing....make sure to take in the lyrics and if you never saw one, youtube an old ECPI commercial. I guarantee you'll at least grin if not outright laugh. That Buck has quite the sense of humor....

This is my first listen to ECPI and it is quite comical. So many schools like that were advertising in all of media back then. Bucks playing is quite good as usual.
