Yeah it was a bit hard to follow. Hopefully things will be a bit clearer in the last episode, but fantastic to hear all the BOC references/music on prime time BBC. Thought it was poor that no references were made in the credits to the band considering they played two of their tracks on it!

I enjoyed it. It certainly helped having only recently read the book. I had to explain to some of my family (who hadn't read the book) who certain characters were and why it kept flitting between Brockbank, Laing and Whitaker. I was thrilled to hear Career of Evil and Mistress of the Salmon Salt, huge smile on my face.

Well... that was a big dish of ointment... zero BOC in the episode itself, and then a 15 second blast of Reaper in the closing credits... :-(
(and still no BOC or Patti Smith acknowledgement in the credits... cheeky buggers!!)

I look forward to seeing it. Thanks for the review, Ralph. I'm not surprised the people who did the video adaptation had no particular reverence for the source material. I was flattered that J.K. Rowling cared enought to dive deep into the BOC catalog to source the book, even going to the post-SONY records.

Found the story a bit muddled however well worth watching for the BOC references. Sort of kept you on your toes (rather than your feet or knees) waiting on any BOC mentions. The Reaper ending was very surprising after a BOC free second episode.

Agree with Deegee777-storyline rather muddled and yes waiting for BOC references which didn't come in part two but the Reaper playing out the credits was a nice touch

but the Reaper playing out the credits was a nice touch Blimey - I didn't think so - it had all the hallmarks of someone saying at the end of the final edit: "Hang on a minute - weren't we going to have some BOC music in this second episode?"
"Bugger! You're right - why didn't you mention it earlier? Sod it - well it's too late now - we'll cram a few seconds of that song - you know, that single they had - in during the end credits... job done!..."
"Genius!! That's why they pay you the big bucks, I suppose... Pub...?
"Pub..."

I thought the second (last) episode was disappointing from both the drama & musical perspectives, the book is much more effective & no BOC on the sound track during the episode. The edited version of The Reaper over the credits definitely felt like an after thought & maybe Career of Evil or Mistress of the Salmon Salt would have been more appropriate but on the positive side I guess at least the band earned a royalty or two from the program. Shame that the Band wasn't credited in either episode though.

"Pub..."Well at least it was a BOC track Positives: I was delighted to hear three BOC songs on a primetime BBC show. Any exposure is good exposure. Negatives: It all seemed a bit rushed. Why did they only do two episodes? The characters could have been developed so much more. Also why no BOC credits?

Just as a follow-up comment on the absence of BOC's name in the credits... I was just watching an old episode of "Medium" and in one section, the viewer was seeing things from the killer's POV as he's driving along, and they're playing BOC on the radio - of course it was Reaper, like they'd use Baby Ice Dog or something :-) - and when he stops the car, the radio cuts off - but then a minute later you get another blast as you see the same scene again, but this time from the victim's POV (it's all a bit complicated)...
Anyway, I checked the credits and they credited "America's Next Top Model" as well as the "Letterman" show - because you saw a few seconds of them on the telly in the victim's houses during the episode - yet, again, BOC didn't get a mention...
Now I found this distinction a bit odd - you have to give credit if you use a few seconds of a TV show in your programme, but if you use 30 seconds worth of a music track, you don't... apparently...
