Joe and his gal Joan just released a new cover of Reaper. Allegedly live, but Joe always adds tracks and overdubs stuff before releasing it. Clicks are clicks, right? Is it live or is it Memorex...? Yep, probably Memorex... eg check out 00:46 where JLH steps away from the mike to press a pedal or something yet her backing vocal continues undiminished... obviously, I can appreciate the logic why Joe does it - he wants it to be the best it can be... personally, though, I've always been a fan of "live" actually meaning live - it's never sat right with me when there's been "shenanigans" afoot... even when it's been obviously done just for a laugh - eg when Joe added a stadium crowd to the live Conry's version of "Watchtower"... LOL my comment was "Nice job making Conrys sound like Madison Square Garden".Then again Krugman added Johnny and Edgar crowd applause(was it Live And?) to OYFOYK as the story goes.

Here, but now There…GONE is how I hear it I think either word works just fine but I always thought Buck was refering to "people" here but now they're (those people) are now gone...?

The meaning is that times, Valentine (love) and finally love of two, all three are things, not people, have moved from one plane of existence to another. The body dies, the person dies, but their time, love, and ultimately their merged love goes from “here” to “there”. So, the theme and operative characters are not people, but, rather, places and things.

So, the theme and operative characters are not people, but, rather, places and things. Totally get it now...thanks! Makes perfect sense the way you explained it. Thanks! To further clarify, I’m only talking about the first two lines of each verse. The rest of the song is about people, so it’s no wonder we all assumed it was “they’re”, as in, “we can be like they are”. Except, once “love of two is one” it’s no longer plural, so it can’t be they, even if it was a person. Plus, when she “her love” took his hand, it wasn’t her lovers hand, it was the Reapers hand. (Who delivered her to her lover) Only spirits fly, like the Reaper and Love…when she became like “they” are, it meant like the seasons, wind, sun, and rain, Romeo and Juliet’s love, (things that go on). Now, if you want flying people, you’ll have to look at E.T.I. (Only that’s in a saucer)

Here, but now there. Gone. The phrase repeated reinforces the song's idea that people go somewhere else, but they still exist. At least in their own perception of existence.
They're gone yes. But they're there. And there? They're not gone. They're there.
I understand the confusion about 'They're' and 'There.' But when I wrote it, it was clear in my mind what I was trying to say. And I was striving for poetic.

I love the fact that DFTR (and other BOC material) still inspires people to dig deeper after all these years. Not many songs out there really worth the effort and time....but you guys have so many! Amazing....

DFTR cover (pretty good one...different for sure) plays in background during "Call of Duty...Modern Warfare III" reveal ad. This should get DFTR some massive exposure I would think...

Here's a slightly different version from the Call of Duty website. Basically an advertisement, but has some different game video mixed in.

Ha! That surprised me. Version is a long way away from the cowbell, ain't it?
Listened all the way through, man this version rocks. Could be going places.. maybe. Tom Rhodes.
