Technically MAYBE a cover since The Buck Dharma Band performed it, not BOC itself.
Performed by:
Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser Sandy Roeser Danny Miranda John Miceli
From the "Miracles DO Happen" Ricky Browning Benefit Concert This is the whole concert, below starts at DFTR. Many thanks to Chuck for help making this happen.
Thanks for posting Joe! I have always been intrigued by this benefit. I have seen most of the perfomace videos but never the interview portions. By all accounts, Ricky was a special young man. By the way.. I'm not crying You're crying

The "official" (1) lyrics from the old BÖC website: FIRST VERSE: All our times have come Here but now there, gone THIRD VERSE: Valentine is done Here but now there gone FIFTH VERSE: Love of two is one Here but now they’re gone (1) Caveat: I say official only because that's what was published by BÖC. Buck and I had a friendly discussion awhile back on the lyrics of Perfect Water and LDOM, and there were a couple of "discrepancies". I forget the details, it's here on the forum somewhere. I think on one or both he performs with a couple of minor words different than the published lyrics. I never even noticed the there vs they're difference. Both would sound exactly the same to me.
For completeness, I checked to see what the old printed "Fan Club" lyric book showed.
In it all three verses have "they're" instead of "there".
Moral of the story: Never FULLY trust any printed/written BÖC lyrics you stumble on. Some may always remain a mystery.
So they're you have it.
I have hand written lyrics for Reaper from the "Composer" himself. It says "there" in all three verses.

Really hard to think of this as a "cover" when the original creator, singer, guitarist is playing the lead. This version of DFTR sounds like, well, DFTR. But with a little Sandy in the mix, so technically a different group.

Ha! That surprised me. Version is a long way away from the cowbell, ain't it? Listened all the way through, man this version rocks. Could be going places.. maybe. Tom Rhodes. It is interesting to me that, when DFTR was originally released, Tom Rhodes’ version would have never ‘cut it’. We wouldn’t be talking about it all these years later. As is, DFTR is ageless. I like Tom’s version, and he was certainly in the right place, right time to get the video game gig. However, for me, there will never be a comparison to the original.

I like covers in general when the artist does something else with the original version, while preserving what's good about the original. My faint hope is somebody someday has a hit with the song. I'm sure Tracy Chapman was flabbergasted when Luke Comb's cover of "Fast Car" took off. : )

Rhodes' version is a competent cover for what it was used for. I think it worked better with the game trailer than Buck's original would have. I think the slow and more sinister (or depressing) mood of the Rhodes' version didn't "take over" and distract the viewer from the video scenes from the game, especially since it ran the whole length of the trailer. Like Buck, I listened to the whole thing. Some covers I've heard last about 15 seconds.
But if I heard the Rhodes' version on the radio in 1976 it's sound would not have grabbed me, hence push the button to the next station. The BOC version grabbed me first time and NEVER a button push, but the volume got turned up.
So I would have had to wait for a BOC cover version to hit the airwaves to really listen to it.

Maybe this one should be "covered up".

In the words of Charlie Brown, “Good grief”.

So will a BOC tribute band named "The Cowbells" ever form? Every song with prominent cowbells. Cringe..
