Anybody think "Reaper" is getting spread too thin on video media? Seems like it's all over the place. Just grit your teeth and cash those royalty cheques... :-)

More is better for me too as long as it adds at least some value or just fits in with the video. Yea, I know, that's a broad brush. And if it isn't used in a way that somehow "trashes" the song. No I can't think of an example off the top of my head, but I think you get the idea. DFTR is always a welcome hear. Of course I'm biased.:)
You should be very proud that you've created something with the popularity that it has after all these years. Wish I had something similar!

Anybody think "Reaper" is getting spread too thin on video media? Seems like it's all over the place. I place no restriction on SONY's use of the song unless it's somehow controversial, and neither does the band. No. I’m always thrilled to stumble upon it when it’s unexpected. So many entertainment options out there, a lot of places where it can go.

I think any song COULD be, but I think its usage has been pretty well limited to good projects. It’s worked great in 1899 and both versions of The Stand, in X, in Halloween, in the video game Prey (it’s gotta be 15 years ago that came out but that scene was awesome). I don’t think I’ve heard it and thought “this doesn’t fit.” The cover version at the end of The Frighteners was pretty cool as well. I would love to hear different BOC songs in movies (like Burnin’ in Let Me In), but it works great if used well. I think The Simpsons used it once, didn’t they? What I would REALLY love to see is Grand Theft Auto licensing a relatively deep cut for their next game’s radio station. They always pick the good stuff.

It’s like our legacy, in many ways. It transcends any context that it’s played in. I get messages from friends, often, some I haven’t spoken with in years, who say “Hey man, I heard Reaper the other day and immediately thought of you”. I’m honored that of all things, DFTR triggers thoughts of me, by those who knew me, decades ago, or know me, now. Other BÖC songs trigger memories, too, but none like DFTR.

I always thought that Supernatural should have used Demon’s Kiss, and Twin Peaks would have been a good fit for Harvest Moon.

Would always rather hear DFTR than how many times the opening of Crazy Train is plagued at sporting events. (I know it says plagued - spellcheck changed played to plagued but it seems rather fitting to leave it like that.)

Interesting article about University of Maryland sports bringing the song back - seems like their reason is solely tradition. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/12/01/maryland-rock-and-roll-part-2/I am a fan of I’m Shipping Up To Boston.

My partner's brother was in a band that once supported Gary Glitter on a tour, and his oft recounted story says that at one of those gigs, Gary got entangled with fans at the front of the stage, and he got stuck, and one of his roadies had to rush on - not to extricate him from their embraces, but rather he was instructed to put his hand upon GG's head to keep his hairpiece in place, which was in serious prospect of becoming dislodged... #you_had_to_be_there

Not a DFTR sighting, but on a related note, I saw a really good episode of the Twilight Zone last night in which the main message was to not fear death. It was from season 3 and titled "Nothing in the Dark". It only had three actors in it, but it was very fascinating, and the surprise twist at the end was very comforting, I thought.

Here is one DFTR sighting that was not planned and NOT welcomed:
As told by an EMT about a call they responded to:
"Why you don’t play Blue Oyster Cult on the way to a cardiac arrest".

The first time BOC played the arena in Buffalo NY, we were greeted coming into the building utility entrance by a private company's ambulance parked handily, with "Don't Fear The Reaper" painted on the hood of the vehicle. We thought it was pretty cool.
