Not a DFTR sighting, but on a related note, I saw a really good episode of the Twilight Zone last night in which the main message was to not fear death. It was from season 3 and titled "Nothing in the Dark". It only had three actors in it, but it was very fascinating, and the surprise twist at the end was very comforting, I thought. The Robert Redford episode where he plays the Angel of Death.?

The first time BOC played the arena in Buffalo NY, we were greeted coming into the building utility entrance by a private company's ambulance parked handily, with "Don't Fear The Reaper" painted on the hood of the vehicle. We thought it was pretty cool. <Sorry, couldn't help it. I got this in my head last night and had to get it out>I can just imagine an ambulance sitting there with the door labeled: Dharma Fast Trauma Response Long Island, NY A subsidiary of DFTR Medical
And on the back door (the red cross would need the BOC hook at the bottom left):
Don't Fear the Reaper + with DFTR Medical!
we'll have you off your knees and on your feet in no time!
Personal Note: No disrespect intended. Hats off to all our hard working first responders that put their lives on the line every day to help keep us safe.

The old lady was afraid of Mr. Death and wouldn't let anyone into her apartment, but she let him in.

I popped up in one of my searches I did yesterday or the day before. I'm not into the "Cyberpunk" gaming thing at all, but I looked it up and apparently it's a big deal in that community. "Within twelve hours after its release, the game had over one million concurrent players on Steam. The PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 sold an estimated 104,600 physical copies during its debut week in Japan, making it the second highest selling retail game of the week in the country. The game passed 13 million copies sold in December 2020. It had the biggest digital game launch of all time, selling 10.2 million digital units and grossing $609 million in digital sales as of 31 December 2020. As of September 2022, the game has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide." (from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2077 )
Just scanning the "unlock" article was bad enough. I don't know about you but I don't have that kind of time to kill on a game! But still cool that the end and the most difficult part of the game is named after DFTR AND the article gave BÖC credit. What are the chances of you guys getting a tiny cut of those huge sales???? I think we all know the answer to that. :)

DFTR on Name That Tune, tonight. Chris Jericho named it in the final round, almost immediately. Host said, got this crowd going with some Blue Oyster Cult, then Chris did the cowbell gesture. Of course he did.

Again, not actually heard in a show or movie, but DFTR took the #1 spot on this list: The 67 Best Songs and Lyrics About Death Of All Timerecording-history.org/songs-about-death/Their description of the song is pretty good too. No suicide, cowbell, etc. Their #2 and #3 picks are good ones too.
Who are they? From their home page: recording-history.org/ ABOUT US We provide you with the latest breaking songs, artists straight from the entertainment industry. Recording-history.org is a participant in the Amazon.com Services LLC Associates Program.
Looks like they might have some interesting technical and equipment articles too.

Well, not exactly a DFTR sighting but in Louisville KY there's this cool pop up restaurant who serves....wait for it....Oysters. The name is "Lou Oyster Cult". I don't know them but I think they've got to be fans because of all the BOC puns etc they use. Oh and if anyone is in Louisville when they're doing a pop up....they really are good!. Gonna try and meet them next time and see if they're fans like I think. Pretty cool. I found them searching for "Blue Oyster Cult Louisville" but mistyped blu and viola.. saw a link result for: louoystercult.com/They don't update their site much though...cause they have a pop up at a local bar fat Tues but the website doesn't show it.

Ok, fogive me if this has already been posted but the NYT did an article back in 2016 called "(Don’t Fear) the Reaper’ Is a Creepy Tune, Even With the Cowbell". It's paywalled but you can read a few paragraphs (enough to know they're mostly FOS as they've lacked any journalistic credibility for 40 years anyway IMHO). At least DFTR was still getting mainstream publicity, which however off base may have turned somebody onto one of the greatest rock songs ever written...so not all bad!

Its our (and my) good fortune SNL didn't kill the creepy side of Reaper. They coulda. Maybe it ironically made it more mainstream.

We watched the movie "Halloween Ends" last night. I knew that DFTR would play during the end credits, but somehow I was expecting the whole song. Not.
The timing was really good. At the end of the movie the screen went black for a second or two, then a second before the actual credits DFTR started up loud and proud. Really reached out and grabbed you and was a proper summary of what happened at the end of the movie. They must have re-mixed things a little bit - on my 5.1 system that was about the best I've heard it sound. Maybe it was just the mood I was in and it was after 1:00 AM.
However we were disappointed that only the first verse was played, then they cut in with something else, then the famous John Carpenter piano Halloween theme. We wanted to hear the whole thing!
Maybe I figured out why only the first verse?? The movie ends in death. The second and third verse of DFTR gets more "romantic" and hopeful. Nothing romantic or hopeful about the end of the movie, so the actual lyrics of the rest of the song wouldn't properly fit, especially for those very familiar with the lyrics and the premise of the song. Just a guess, but I felt better rationalizing a reason anyway.
An odd thing in the credits. DFTR is listed twice, the first time up higher in the credits, the second time down near the bottom.
The first credit was shown as:
[Don't Fear] The Reaper Written by Donald Roeser
The second credit that made sense was:
[Don't Fear] The Reaper Written by Donald Roeser Performed by Blue Öyster Cult Courtesy of Columbia Records By arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment
Don't know what the first one was about. Maybe there was some really obscure use of DFTR up earlier that we missed. Something mysterious always seems to follow DFTR around I guess.

Hat tip to John Carpenter. He got the whole "Reaper" thing rolling.
