Buck has a few videos on YouTube, I think made a few years back, where he does a short demo of how to play some of his songs. I wish he would return to doing more of those kinds of videos and maybe a little more in depth and longer. I’m pretty sure he is quite busy these days with concerts and writing new material for the next album (hint) so can’t commit to the task.. Maybe you can put a request in to see if he might do a short demo, that is if he has the time, and see if he bites. And while I’m thinking of it I’ll just ask here. Back in the 80’s Buck had a series of articles in one of the Guitar magazines of that time. I think they were some suggested practice exercises or such. Does anyone remember these articles and if they can be obtained on line somewhere? The magazine was 'Guitar Player for the Practicing Musician'. I believe you can still find those articles on Buck Dharma.com

Enjoy - or not........Cover art: There's always a lot of comments about the Heaven Forbid cover art. So I decided to see who the artist was, not to criticize or praise, but just to see what else he had done. The signature on the cover says "PRIOR '97", so I finally found that his name is Rob Prior. I could have saved myself a lot of work because that's mentioned on the old BOC website. Oh well...... Assuming I found the right person, turns out he appears to be a quite successful artist that paints with two hands at once. Does a lot of comic book art. Puts on live shows demonstrating his fast 2-handed approach to art. His website is currently down, so if you want to see any of his other work, there's lots of stuff, you'll have use your search engine of choice to search for things like: "rob prior" art or "rob prior" artist (use image search mode if you have it) Looking at some of his more horror-related work I can see similarities in style to HF. There are also things on YouTube. I couldn't find some of the samples I saw last night, but here's one of Prior's with a similar theme. This one was also done in 1997: A similar but tamer cover as opposed to the eyeball-man?
Still a Heaven Forbid atmosphere, but not as hideous to look at. Not suggesting it's better, just one of Prior's that I stumbled on. (Still doesn't match some of the songs on the album, like Harvest Moon or Live for Me.)
Anyway here's a video showing his painting techniques: Anyway, I found his style interesting. But then I'm damaged...

I held off on commenting on this thread I really wanted to hear Buck's thoughts. Also love reading members commentary. Ya'll didn't disappoint. The fire fueled discourse about impassioned topics remind me of the family get together we used to have after a bit of alcohol was consumed.. .. a little outside fisticuffs always seemed prudent and afters a few more drinks. Then we kiss and make up. Anyways HF .. what a great album. I love Shirly inspired BÖC. By God this thing delivered. For me it was like a welcome return to the Sci fi sinister hard edged bad ass rock BÖC was about. The huge plus? Not a damn bad cut on the album. Every song delivered. I of course have some favorite cuts but as a whole you couldn't ask for more. I read more than a few reviews over the years and it seems those "professional" mouthpieces are not a big fan of the release. To me their opinions are like week old bread. It was once interesting to read, now they sound so stupid and out of touch. I love it and 25 years later even more so. A few years ago I was at the outside Foamhenge concert which was held on a late fall evening. The boys were really on it and was I having a blast. Then the coolest thing ever happened. The skies were a mix of big clouds and it was warm and slightly windy. Then Buck stepped up to the front of the stage and led us into Harvest Moon. I remember thinking how prefect this was with the weather and atmosphere. I started to take a pic the dark night clouds moved off to display a beautiful perfect full moon.. a perfect harvest moon. It hung there for the almost the entire song and then became shrouded again as the song ended. Likely I'll never get to experience that again. Yeah.. I love HF

I love HF HF suffered from under promotion, awful cover and being out of print/distribution since then. I think it's a fine BOC record. Strong contributions from Chuck Burgi, Jon Rogers, Danny Miranda and Bobby Rondinelli.

Not to ask you names Buck, but I'd really like to know, 25 years later... who in the band or in the close circle that surrounds the band thought it was a good and appropriate cover for the first BÖC album in what, 10 years ?
(ok, we need names.) (or name.) (and a walk of shame.) (just kidding) (well...) (no really, kidding)

I have a bunch of them with Buck's column. I'll dig them up and see what I can't cultivate (seriously, no pun intended) for the board.

My kids say that HF is the soundtrack of their childhood….”Do not lift the veil of the skies”

Just FYI:
Speaking of distribution, Amazon still has HF in stock, actually from a store called MovieMars-CDs in North Carolina. $18 + $4 shipping. Says it's an import but doesn't clarify.
Curse of the Hidden Mirror - this one is strange: $69 direct from Amazon Prime. Wow! , or $23 import, says free delivery. Looks like it comes from Amazon Global Store UK, but the seller is shown in Luxembourg.
Prices and availability of several BÖC CDs seem to vary every time I check. Always try to get wife one for birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc. Tried to get HF for Christmas, no go, so got her OYFoOYK instead. That one has a cool cover! I didn't try looking at any other online music stores.

Speaking of the cover art again, this might be common knowledge but I found a high-res image of the cover on my computer today. So I zoomed in looking for "hidden stuff". Found one. His left eyeball, image below. Anybody see anything interesting? Click image to enlarge

Heaven Forbid has a lot of variety, from the opening metal track, Real World, a nice version on In Thee, Harvest Moon. A great album, I remember those BOC concerts in the 90's, starting in about 1992, they kept talking about a new album, the band was already playing songs from it. I have a bunch of board cassettes from the 90's with Power Underneath Despair, and Still Burnin. I don't skip any songs on this album, every song is awesome and they all take me back to where I was in the late 90's. I'm surprised the first two songs didn't get any airplay in the Seattle area, but I think radio at that time, especially in Seattle, was all about the grunge scene.
