HF suffered from under promotion, awful cover and being out of print/distribution since then. I think it's a fine BOC record. Strong contributions from Chuck Burgi, Jon Rogers, Danny Miranda and Bobby Rondinelli.
Not to ask you names Buck, but I'd really like to know, 25 years later... who in the band or in the close circle that surrounds the band thought it was a good and appropriate cover for the first BÖC album in what, 10 years ?
(ok, we need names.) (or name.) (and a walk of shame.) (just kidding) (well...) (no really, kidding)
It was a band fumble, made worse because we had no time to make it right or make it over before release. I had an idea for a horror movie poster cover, inspired by the Anna Mostyn character from the movie "Ghost Story" from the Peter Straub novel. I envisioned a decomposed but reanimated corpse and a horrified gal, in the style of a 50's "B" horror movie. I never liked the LP Title, but was outvoted. Anyway, Eric Bloom found the artist and commissioned the art based on the vague instruction. The delivery was delayed and and delayed. When we got it, it looked like a guy with a scallop for an eyeball. I wanted just a black "Smell The Glove" cover instead, but was outvoted on that too. But nobody ever thought the HF cover was good!

I must be the only guy that thinks the cover, while bizarre, is kinda cool. And let's face it (pardon the pun) cover art is not as intriguing as it was in the 70s. How many kids today spend their first listen while combing every inch of the cover and liner notes like we did?

Ha, that thought, that cover art and notes weren't so important in the CD era, was a small consolation to our epic fail with the HF package.

Well that epic fail wasn't the band's fault....you guys rocked it out of the park! Whoever was in charge of marketing however...

Found another place where HF is omitted. There's a burger place we go to once a week, it has a "jukebox" (i.e. touchscreen song selection). There are about 360 BOC tracks, some are duplicates between different versions of albums and live performance CD/DVD's.
I usually play DFTR through it to see if anybody notices, but the crowd usually drowns it out. So I thought I would go for "Damaged" tonight. NOT FOUND. So did a show albums view - no Heaven Forbid at all. HF tracks, like Harvest Moon, show up on things like Rock of Ages, but anything ONLY on HF seems to be omitted. Some licensing issue I assume? Long Days Night is missing also.
So ended up going for LDOM Rock of Ages version. That sucker was loud! But still bummed no Damaged.

HF cover "black glove" version? Wasn't sure what that would look like so did a search for "black glove album cover". I don't think some of them were what Buck had in mind. A couple made eyeball man look pretty tame.
Found a Rolling Stones article on album covers banned in the US. Some of them were pretty bad....and gross. Not much offends me, and even though some were funny, I wouldn't want some of those covers sitting around in my house!

"Smell The Glove" is from Spinal Tap. The record company rejects the band's cover and the release record cover is just a plain black rectangle with the title.
If you haven't seen "Spinal Tap" Joe, you should.

If you haven't seen "Spinal Tap" Joe, you should. Oh yea, I need to check it out! I like stuff like that. I assume they don't show the "actual" dog collar cover they wanted in the movie, just the description. I found pictures of covers that matched that description, but they're all a little different, so I assume they're fake covers of a fictional cover. But The Spinal Tap "Break Like the Wind - The Videos" VHS has the dog collar, but no glove. That one is real. Found out where the watch the movie for free, has ads but so what. Now gotta convince the wife to watch. Guess I'm way behind on things, I thought Spinal Tap was a REAL band. Guess it kinda was, but wasn't. :) I guess that was the whole intent. Thanks for putting me on to it. But now I have a vision of a HF cover with dog collar, chain, black glove, and the eyeball man in my head, but it should probably just stay there...................

When you're done with Spinal Tap, check out Best in Show. It's as equally absurd yet spot on.
